A Political Tagging Update
As we draw closer to January 20th, I’d like to take a minute to update everyone on how I’m going to be tagging things going forward.
I joined tumblr in 2012, at the beginning of Obama’s second term in office. I remember when he beat Mitt Romney I posted a status to Facebook that said “Bullet successfully dodged, America.” I didn’t even stay awake to watch half the country’s precincts report in.
Even if our current president-elect wasn’t a white supremacist, wasn’t a fascist, wasn’t a racist, sexist, bigoted, tantrum-throwing, politically unaware glob of human refuse, I wouldn’t be particularly happy about the result. But given that he is all of those things, and I am more fearful of my future now than I ever have been, my blog is probably going to become more political for the foreseeable future.
Since tumblr is an escape for many (myself included, sometimes) and blacklists are something that absolutely should be used for your peace of mind, I will now be tagging my political posts as follows:
#geopolitics: for world politics, political happenings outside the United States, United States policy-making that affects world politics
#us politics: for political happenings and policy-making that primarily affects the United States
#politics: a general tag for governmental policy-making
#porange: a clever mash of potus and orange for posts directly mentioning the president elect
#this is not normal: this is an important thing to remember, both for myself and for others. I feel like the meaning is self-explanatory.
