Not dead by the way! But not on the computer either! Things are ok, Barbie was wonderful, as is summer as a whole. I seem to be spending it working and in the sun, again, but Iâve made some stuff. Letâs see if I manage to sit down long enough to upload at some point :S

i don't consider things that aren't story to be spoilers (stuff like hair, glamour, furniture, some scenery depending on context), but i'll probably be tagging them with #5.0 anyway as a courtesy.
story stuff will be tagged with #ffxiv spoilers and #5.0 spoilers.
This is so, so late *sobbing*. In any case, I was tagged by the wonderful @naamah-beheritâ an eternity ago (I hadnât forgotten! Real life just... has a way of being very demanding).Â
Anyway. Um. Hereâs a little something-something from the very first fic I planned to post (didnât, because I chickened out at the last minute, and got distracted by something else, and forgot). âGrad school AU that parallels the anime episode by episodeâ, that was the goal. To be more specific: Viktor Nikiforov is a Nobel Laureate who published a solution to the NavierâStokes existence and smoothness problem, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems in mathematics. Yuuri is a big fan of Viktorâs and a grad student at Viktorâs own alma mater, gunning for a Ph.D in Physics just like Viktor did. A terrible setback leaves his self-esteem in pieces, and his plans for his career in jeopardy. (And then, obviously: the universe throws them together.)
So... still technically a WIP? Who knows, I may just pick this up again in the future. Maybe.Â
IN ADVANCE, I hereby tag... anyone who wants to do this? Hahaha
Postulate: Viktor Nikiforov was a genius.
And he made it look so easy, too: Viktor Nikiforov, whoâd tucked Russiaâs version of a Ph.D. into his cap at 23 -- and then gone ahead and bagged a doktor nauk, which was even higher still, at 26, because why not, right? Heâd published and collaborated on so many papers in so many prestigious journals that whenever Yuuri looked up his user profile on Google Scholar, the scrollbar on his browser turned into a sad little sliver.
It wasnât just the science that he made look easy; it was everything. One year ago, when heâd visited for a collaboration at Yuuriâs school and delivered a guest lecture about his research at the weekly grad student meetups, it was the way his Powerpoint had only something like ten slides, and each slide barely had over ten lines. It was the way heâd done everything else on the boards, turning what should have been a run-of-the-mill presentation into a chalk talk, one that was more riveting than anything else Yuuri had ever witnessed.
It was his hair, his smile, how his suit mustâve been tailored to within an inch of its life. And his eyes -- âI didnât imagine Dr. Nikiforov looked like this,â Phichit had whispered.
It was a good thing, in hindsight, that theyâd not chosen seats right in the front row. âWhat did you imagine he looked like?â Yuuri had whispered back.
âI donât know. Not this? Like⌠I guess I was imagining some sad, tiny man who looks like heâs been working non-stop in a basement somewhere and hasnât seen sunlight since the end of the Cold War?â
âHuh.â Right, of course, there were thick lines sketched out between a scientistâs work and the rest of his existence, and it made sense that Phichit had only ever dared to venture within the space of âthings related to Viktor Nikiforov that he could cite in a review paperâ. Yuuri had⌠gone a bit further than that, but it really hadnât been hard: there were pictures of Viktor accepting awards and research prizes all over the internet, some feature articles in pop-science newsletters with his face in the top-left corner, screenshots from a TED Talk. Yuuri didnât know how much of a celebrity Viktor was in Russia, or how something like that could even be quantified, but he did know that somewhere in some Cyrillic-language magazine, there existed a photo of Viktor sitting on the edge of a large desk, in dark jeans and a sport coat with elbow patches, and that there was a sketch of a proof of Greenâs theorem taking up the chalkboard behind him, but it was hard to focus on that when the subject of the photo was mid-wink, with the tip of one of the stems of his glasses between his smiling lips.
If Yuuri happened to have a copy of that picture on his phone, well, that was neither here nor there.
But that was as far as heâd ever planned to go. Viktor Nikiforov was several orders of magnitude out of Yuuriâs reach, even when he was standing in the same room. So even after the talk, when Viktor had gamely accepted a postdocâs suggestion to continue his extended Q&A at a nearby pub, Yuuri had begged off. Heâd been shy then, and heâd always looked up to Viktor, wanted to follow in his blazing footsteps badly -- so badly, in fact, that his fear of embarrassing himself in front of his idol (thank you, alcohol tolerance) had won out over his curiosity to hear more about his work.
That had been a year ago.
That had been a year ago, and things had changed. Well, some hadnât -- Yuuri was still shy, and he was still keeping an eye on Viktor Nikiforovâs career. But that part about wanting to follow in his footsteps, right, that⌠would seriously need to be revisited, now that the results of his Comprehensive Exams had just come out.
âIâm sorry.â Â He tightened his grip on his phone when he realized his hand was shaking. âI messed up.â
There wasnât really much else to say. Yuuri ended the call before his mother could say something encouraging, something that started with âat leastâ or ânext timeâ or âweâll still support youâ. He let the hand holding his phone fall limply to his knee before the screen turned black, so that he wouldnât see his face. He didnât have to; he felt the sting building behind his eyes, the telltale tightness in his chest. This was far from the first time heâd sought out this bathroom, at the furthest end of the hallway on the 5th floor of the Engineering building, and locked himself into the last stall.
It should have felt better, crying it out. No-one disturbed him the whole time. But relief felt a lot more like emptiness than anything else, as once the tears had all dried up, all the was left was: what now?
(See, @congregamus? I did the thing! Is it half-credit due to lateness?)

This turned out to be a surprisingly apt cross-section! Honestly, if youâve read the thing and feel like you wish youâd been tagged, you are hereby It. For fun, Iâll tag @elucubrare and @aeide-thea, because I know yâall will have similarly mish-mashed results, and @planesong just to see if she can be coaxed back over to these parts to make aural potpourri.Â
*I promise I didnât cheat by hitting ânextâ until I got a Kyrie....I was technically listening to Lianne La Havas when I sat down to start these shenanigans and decided to start counting after turning Shuffle on and beginning a new song.
I was tagged by @maya-doolali and @katrinnac with some neato questions, thank you! This will be fun!
Height: 185 cm - I always forget my height in feet... alright Iâll look it up: 6 ft  53/64 inch - to be exact and all.
Howarts house: Ravenclaw or Slytherin, depends on the test I take and in which mood I take the test .
SSBB Character: I always used Cpt. Falcon in SSB, so I still used him in SSBB for nostalgic reasons. I know there are better options, but landing a Falcon Punch is oh so satisfying. Damn, I want to play again! Itâs been yeeeaaars.
Favorite Band: I think R.E.M., The Beatles, and Queen have made the most songs Iâve enjoyed listening to, but I wouldnât call any band my favorite. I donât like choosing.
When did you make this blog: April 2015.
How many blogs do you follow: 841, wouldnât know how many of them are actually active though.
What do you post about: Mostly poetry.
Do you get asks regularly: No, not at all, but if I reach out and ask for prompts, questions, or anything along those lines, people usually react. I am grateful for that. Itâs nice to know my rare streaks of extravertism are apreciated.
Aesthetic: Somewhere between David Bowieâs Starman and Pearl Jamâs Black; Daft Punkâs Touch sums me up pretty well.
I tag @softhowlinglight, @adamantseal, @denmysterywoman, @leaveyouapage, @madworlddiary, @ahellofagooduniversenextdoor, @anjo-da-guarda-me, @renaudcr7 (if you havenât done this one yet and without any obligation to do so), and anyone else who wants to do this!

Seven specifics (micro-orgasmic, according to Wolfie): answer seven questions and then tag other victims of shenanigans.
(Tagged by @desayunogratis and @goneahead Thank you for thinking of me!)

Relationship status: Married a long time
Favorite color: Periwinkle (I think I was just as drawn to the name as the color back when I first spied the crayon in the Crayola box of 64)

Last song listened to: âSomeone to Watch Over Me,â Ella Fitzgerald (currently a live version)

Dream trip: A glass igloo watching the Aurora Borealis is in my top five dream trips.
Tagging some fine gentlemen I donât see doing these much but Iâll try anyway: @the-sea-lives-inme @the-ravens-song @dustseeker
Put a quarter in...
I was tagged by @definegodliness to share 10 recent musical choices from my corner of the planet. Thank you!
Iâm a little excited because 1) I love music and 2) I donât get tagged often, but Iâm also trepidatious because 1) itâs hard to choose and 2) these choices would be different this time tomorrow (hmmm... could be Hoagy Carmichael or Holst or Pink Floyd or Pearl Jam or Peter,Paul&Mary or... ok. I see why Iâm not tagged much; Iâm a mess. đŹ)
So here are the latest songs Iâve queued:
Wilco- Poor Places
Eastern Conference Champions- Sideways Walking
Velvet Underground- I Found a Reason
David Bowie- Starman
Elbow- Montparnasse
