#744 - Tachysphex sp. Sand Wasp
Smallish Crabronid wasps that parasitise mostly grasshoppers, but some species target katydid, crickets, cockroaches, and praying mantids. Nymphs of these insects are stung into paralysis, then flipped onto their back, grabbed one of its antennae, and cradled it with at least one pair of legs.  She will fly her prize back to the shallow nest dug into dry sand, or haul her heavier cargo overland. There’s over 400 species worldwide.
