I think DJs are getting to the point where they have too many options to choose from, and they cannot decide what is actually best to use. The same exact thing can be done in multiple ways; a controller can control a DVS without the need for turntables, decks, or a mixer. If you prefer, you can work without physical controllers at all, and you can just use a computer or tablet its own. With the many ways that we can do the same thing – it’s a wonder that we are even able to use one technique well. I will say that tablet devices have much more going for them than physical controllers. For one, these are easily configurable to a style of your choice and the best part of all is how they communicate with your main computer.
Using MIDI over wi-fi allows you to place your controller (tablet) anywhere you like. You are not limited to where you can stick it in your booth, and you can even keep it in your hands and perform to the audience without having to worry about tripping over any USB cables. The performance aspect of this setup beats the static booth any day.
