#table arrangement

Sometimes the sweetest bouquet is the smallest.

This pretty April Spring flower assortment came from my gardens on Forsythia Hill. The Daffodils are declining and I thought there was not much left to pick.

The color tone in the Spring often is comprised of lavender and pink. Violets, Money Plant, Star of Bethlehem, Catmint, and leaves of Solomon Seal and Hosta made this teeny arrangement.

What a jewel! I need to recreate this gem of a floral arrangement for my Thanksgiving table. Now, I just need to learn how to cook a turkey. Lol 🦃

Notes:

Put in height and frame out with foliage first.

Main flowers second

Secondary flowers + foliage to fill out center (to bulk up, basically)

Filler foliage/flowers to hide gaps

Break up the outline with wispy foliage

Tall vase - three to four blocks of floral foam

Glass vase: use cordyline or iron leaf to wrap around blocks (pin in if needed) before putting into vase

That depends a little, if the arrangement is only needed for the candlelight dinner and it’s sort of dark and the candles are the only light, I would recommend to keep it simple. Not too many colours of flowers since the detail will get lost in dark. Overall table arrangements that are meant to placed between two people and their food aren’t very tall either so it’s likely going to be something small-ish and shapely, since they’re not supposed to obstruct the view. It just kind of would be a little sad to have an elegant extravagant piece that nobody can really appreciate because there is too little light.

If there is an opportunity for them to marvel its beauty in daylight it can definitely be more extravagant. Made with more flowers and detail. Maybe your characters will notice something they didn’t before.

Ultimately either would be fine, more important would be that the arrangement is neither in the way nor otherwise hindering your characters from eating. Whether it be through smell (lilac for example) or parts of plants that somehow end up in the food (hanging plants draped across the table may look pretty, just like branches sticking out of the arrangement but if it hinders your characters it’s a bad design choice) or simply through height. Sometimes height it okay though, but only when it’s like see-through (branches or grass for example) but even then only when it’s not visually bothering anyone.
