Top 5 James Moments!
Wanted to join @stop-breaking-my-heart-telltale in her Top Five Friday, so I decided to take James! Big thanks to @pi-creates for the screenshots I used.
5. Helping Clem and AJ
He sincerely tries to help despite not knowing them. I've always found it to be endearing, especially for this scene. Kid has shrapnel that needs to be taken out? Okay, I'll help, let's do it. Done? I'll tape him up. Zero questions, just helping.
This especially applies to my ideal ending where James stays behind in the cave to keep Clem, AJ, and Tenn safe. Did the one thing he was especially adamant about NOT happening, and he will still help you (as long as the correct choices are made).
4. Campfire Scene
It's nice and slow. He tries to get to know Clem a bit better and gives her food. Like... what more could you ask for in a favorite moments?
I think it also helps that you can see he's trusting her when he takes his mask off. Even better.
3. Walker Barn
I know a lot of people hate this but... the sentiment is wonderful and all he wants is for Clem to see it from his POV. I get the hate, I do, but even just imagining if his thoughts on walkers to be true makes everything all the more tragic. And who doesn't love tragic?
2. On the Boat
When James is trying to convince AJ to put the gun down... *chef's kiss*. His desperation really shows and all he wants is for the kid to put down the gun so nobody gets hurt.
It's beautiful and I mainly give credit to his VA for my love of this scene.
1. The Cave
I know A LOT of people hate the cave scene because of how angry James gets. However, counter point, he has a reason to be angry.
He was that kid. He wants AJ to be better and when he's not... he's rightfully upset. Especially if Clementine promises not to let AJ kill Lilly. Look, I'm not one to usually love a shout off but...
James trying to get the message across to Clementine is something I will always look forward to. It's something that affected me the day I played and still kinda hits home. Obviously not in the same capacity, but it does!
Just... I love it a lot.

Honorable Mentions:
- James meeting the Ericson kids. Delightfully awkward.
- Him taking Clem to the side after Tenn's little comment. Especially funny if you chose "marry" because it looks like he takes you aside to say "I'm gay"
- Seeing him as a walker. It's so horrible that I love it.
- Alternatively, his death on the boat. I didn't see it coming the first time (until last second) and WOW. I hate it so much that I like it!
