So this pipeline is being built and run by an American company to export oil to overseas refineries in the Pacific to sell processed petrochemicals internationally... I may be confused but I'm not seeing the part where the Canadian economy's supposed to benefit here long-term
Well Alberta and the Federal Government will make money off of it based on petroleum royalty revenues. British Columbia will make a smaller amount of money. But most will go towards Alberta.
Also having the ability to ship more oil quickly will allow the oil sands to expand which could lead to indirect jobs (but that will also make it increasingly difficult to cut CO2 emissions)
That’s why Alberta/Trudeau government wants it; money.
Indigenous rights, BC’s tourism industry, BC’s pristine coast, Action on climate change, all go to the wayside.
