that's the long & short of it , really. his father said she decided she didn't want to be a mother one day & walked out , though paxton ventures it might've been easier since they were never married. but it's ... difficult to describe how it makes him feel. on one hand , it hurts in a way paxton's not sure how to handle.

❛ my dad said she walked out when i was one. they weren't married & it's not like i remember her. but to wait a year to decide to leave ... i think that's a little cruel. ❜

if his voice shakes a little , paxton hopes it'll go unmentioned. but leaving wasn't the problem he really had , it wasn't the thing that really hurt. that had come when he was fifteen , sent halfway across the world to live with relatives he never even knew existed , who spoke a language he'd never heard before. his mother's family , his grandparents his dad had told him. they were nice people , but they'd let it slip that his mother still lived nearby ; that she visited them often.

funny that paxton never saw her in the past five years.

❛ after the whole thing with team flare , my dad , uh ... sent me to live with my grandparents , my mom's parents , over in hoenn. apparently she visited pretty often since she lived a town over. she , uh , must've heard they took me in 'cause ... i never saw her. ❜

this time , his voice cracks sharply , eyes watering.

ange is relentless. it refuses to yield , even with the barrage of attacks. but he can't give up , not on floette , & certainly not on taunie. it was inconceivably reckless for her to go with floette , not because paxton didn't trust her , no. but ange was unstable , & now her & floette were trapped.

it didn't make him feel any better that zygarde's moves were hitting the tower directly. in fact the whole situation makes his stomach turn , but he can't very well focus on that right now. if he stops to think at all , he'll get hit , probably obliterated if floette's light of ruin held as much power as it seemed to. paxton wasn't particularly keen on finding out , though , keeping a tight hold of the pebble zygarde had given him.

a new light eminates from the top of what was prism tower , & paxton curses under his breath. if anything happens , floette & taunie might get caught in the blast. but if he does nothing , all of lumiose is in danger. looking to zygarde , he nods , & watches as its next attack intercepts ange , a blinding explosion filling the sky as what was once the observatory level is destroyed.

silence , followed by the shifting of debris , & paxton nearly crumples with relief. floette is obviously exhausted , but alive. they both are , & he drags himself on tired legs over to meet them , laughing as he looks from the sleeping pokemon in taunie's arms to her face. his feet move without thought , paxton stumbling over debris until he's close enough to put his hands on taunie's shoulders.

his hands fist in the lapels of her jacket , being mindful of floette between them when he pulls taunie in to kiss her. it's not ideal , & the angle is awkward & it only lasts a moment before paxton leans back , face slightly pink & brow furrowed.

it's meant to be serious , but paxton can't seem to keep the relieved smile off his face , hands lingering on her shoulders.

Relationship Headcanons [Accepting]

Taunie found it really weird when Zal was always happy to do Too Much Work for team MZ. Taunie was also the first person to get Zalaia's very nonchalant explanation of her childhood trauma. Taunie made A Face. You know the one. Inadvertently, it caused the both of them to work a little bit more so the other wouldn't worry. It came to a head at The Tower Incident and luckily both have kind of chilled out in doing things separately, and instead do reckless things together. No one really batted an eye when they started hanging out in each other's rooms overnight, because they both needed the sleep.

When Taunie went to Quasartico, Zal was terrified she would not see Taunie again. Zal did not want Taunie to become a CEO of a company and found that entire family thing rather sudden, and very unfair to her. Despite this, she still supported Taunie and saw her every day, even giving up Royale Nights for months just to see her. Zalaia never told Taunie this because she eventually realized it was selfish of her to just want Taunie to stay at the Hotel with her. Thus she cried her eyes out when Taunie decided it wasn't for her and to come back. Zal told Taunie afterwards the entire truth and still feels bad about it.

At least once a month they have a very late night where they go on the roof and have s'mores with just the two of them. They have a favourite blanket they like to share. It's one of those incredibly plush and soft ones they found while wandering about a local store in the city.

paxton doesn't blame taunie for taking the quasartico job in the post-game. he understands, or at least he says he does. but things between them are....definitely Tense for a little while, at least up until the dlc. he cares about taunie, he really does. but it does sting a little, y'know. but it's not her fault, he doesn't blame her, and he does eventually get over those feelings.

taunie gets a lot of gifts, mostly small things that made paxton think of her. sometimes it's something simple like a cool rock he found or an item he thought might be helpful for her in the infinite royale. other times, it's something significant and elaborate, like spending an entire day making her favorite foods or surprising her with some really specific item she'd mentioned forever ago that he finally found. he thinks about her a lot and doesn't want her to think otherwise.

surprisingly, paxton is extremely open with her about a lot of things. of anyone else, taunie is likely the first to find out that professor sycamore is paxton's dad, simply because he feels comfortable telling her, and i think that's because they're actually pretty similar. regardless, taunie's the first to find out a lot of things that he just doesn't or hasn't told anyone else because he trusts her.

Only when people are mean to his friends.
