Winners of Second Superfan Contest
Well, itās official, our Superfan contest has ended and the winners have been selected! It was very tough to decide on who would get the chance to come out to System76 HQ and participate in the event, as there were so many strong entries. After much deliberation, here are this yearās Superfans.
Jacob, A.K.A. the āNerd on the Streetā submitted multiple entries. He created a video review of the Serval for Superfan. Jacob also regularly creates Linux video content (using our Serval), which is available on his website. Heās a huge fan of System76, and we are proud to call him a Superfan!
Here is Jacobās video review of the Serval:
Benjamin Flanagin created 3D versions of our Roguebots characters, that began as the stars of the augmented reality game we included with purchases for the Holidays. Before Superfan, Ben made an awesome video featuring the Roguebots (see below). Ben went even further for Superfan, creating an CodeBreakers awesome RogueBots for Linux, called Codebreakers.
The game is distributed using Ubuntuās new Snap packaging, and available in the Software Center. The Roguebots thank you Ben!

Anthony Kinyalocts submitted an Android app that lets you compare System76 products with Apple's (pictured below). Itās extra legit because it uses our API! You can download the app from his GitHub page now.Ā The description of the Github repo is titled, "Me and Nate's entry for System76 Superfan Contest!!" as friend Nate was a partner in developing the app. This app is so cool, great job Anthony and Nate!

Jay LaCroix is an awesome advocate and fan of ours, and we appreciate his support in our mission to make the best computers on the planet. Beyond just generally being awesome, Jay created shared some early pics of aĀ āSystem76 Welcome Appā he is working on (pictured below). Based on the Ubuntu MATE welcome app, the app is intended to help new users get started with their System76 machine, link to our community/support pages and other helpful documentation, as well as to our website and social media. He submitted other entries to the contest as well, including the books heās written on Ubuntu/Linux.

Riley Paxton, using Inkscape, created a very detailed concept (with diagrams) for a fully modular laptop. We are very interested in talking with the hardware hacker and, in the usual open source fashion, share ideas with him and see what he thinks of our upcoming products! Check out the concept here!

Samuel Cheboya submitted two video entries for the contest. One video was an unboxing of his Oryx Pro, the other, is a video on upgrading his Oryx Pro. These videos are awesome, and he is such a great presenter. Also, as an aside, upgrading the RAM and Hard Drive on System76 machines does not void our Open Hardware Warranty - so kudos to Sam for sharing his upgrade with the world!
Here is the video of Sam upgrading his Oryx Pro:
NickĀ Durkee tells us, "I live and breathe Linux. ... and am advocate for open source at every opportunity. I even convinced my boss to buy me a brand new Lemur š. It would be an honor to see what System76 is doing first hand!" Nick is a true Superfan, with some great posts about his love for us featured on Twitter.
When Nick isnāt Unleashing his Potential with his System76 rig heās hanging with the big man, Linus Torvalds, as evidenced by this picture:
Joshua Whitley is a System76 fan who is truly a #CreatorMakerBuilder. What is he creating? Cars that drive themselves, how freaking cool is that?! Anyone who knows us here at the oleā 76, knows we love the idea of autonomous cars, and that is what Josh is making every day over at AutonomouStuff. We look forward to picking his brain on what he thinks of that new super secret product weāre working on...
Hereās a video demonstrating the stuff Josh is working on:
Those are our winners for this Superfan contest! As we said at the outset of this post, this year was very difficult as there were so many strong submissions. Weāre so grateful to everyone who participated, and we encourage everyone who entered this year, and didnāt make it, to enter next yearās contest!
We look forward to meeting our fantastic Superfans when they join us at the System76 office February 10th and 11th. Weāll make sure to share what happens with all of our Superfans out there who werenāt able to come this time. We canāt wait to embark on the adventure that is Superfan: Legend of the Lake!Ā
