British Library Add. 7170 is a rare, richly illustrated 13th-century Syriac Christian manuscript, produced around 1215–1220 CE, likely in the Jazira region near Mosul, possibly at the Deir Mar Mattai. Written in Syriac using Estrangela script, it is closely related to a similar manuscript in the Vatican Library. Its artistic style combines Byzantine art influences with features found in Islamic illustrated manuscripts, reflecting a shared visual culture in 12th- and 13th-century Syria and Iraq.

The Rabbula Gospels, named for the scribe who signed them, were completed at the Monastery of St. John of Zagba in 586. The book contains the four canonical Gospels in Syriac, the dialect of Aramaic that became an important literary and ecclesiastical language for Christians in Syria and Mesopotamia, eventually spreading as far as Central Asia, the Arabian Peninsula, and India. The Rabbula Gospels are currently housed in the Biblioteca Mediceo Laurenziana, Florence, Italy.
