Synodic is an animatronic OC I created for @driftingmoonmenace's Falling Stars AU and you can learn all about them below:
Synodic is an early Daycare Attendant model created before Sun and Moon were split into two separate animatronics.
They served as the Daycare Attendant at their Pizza Plex located just north of Miami; a much-loved alternative to other more popular (and pricey) amusement parks up in Orlando.
Sometime after the decision was made to split Sun and Moon into two characters, Synodic was one of the first few older models to undergo a separation from his other half in order for FazCo to save money. He retained the Moon persona and his Sun's AI was given a brand-new body. Corners were cut, and despite the separation, residual code of Sun remained floating around within him.
Everything was going fine for them though, until the day their body malfunctioned. A code that was meant to keep the Sun mode suppressed became corrupted, and their body got trapped in its solar appearance despite that they were still running on the Moon AI. They were then shipped off to a regional warehouse in Texas where animatronics believe they'll be fixed, only to instead be used for parts.
When they arrive, they are met by an animatronic known as King; a beat-up older Daycare Attendant model who is stuck in their Eclipse mode. King takes a special interest in them and gives them the name Synodic; a word meaning the conjunction of stars, planets, or other celestial objects.
Synodic is scared being in this new place, surrounded by animatronics of all kinds who seem to all be in various states of disrepair, so he's at first grateful for King taking him under their wing. King seems to be more-or-less in charge of all the others there, and Synodic becomes King's assistant in keeping the other animatronics in line and getting them to comply with the human staff when it's time to be worked on.
As time goes on, however, Synodic realizes that these animatronics aren't being fixed. They're being used for parts, and some of them aren't making it back "alive." It is about this time that the residual code of Sun within them begins to pop in like an intrusive voice, judging and condemning what Synodic has become part of.
And then one day there comes a new animatronic to the warehouse, another Moon model who is entirely intact physically, only has a malfunctioning voice box. He is sweet and naïve, and King takes an immediate interest in him just like they did with Synodic.
Synodic quickly befriends this new animatronic in an effort to be a barrier between him and King, to protect him from falling under King's control just like they did. They give him the name Nightlight and try to discreetly let him know that this is not the safe place he thinks it is.
With Sun's voice nagging at his subconscious near constantly, Synodic decides the best way to atone for what he's done is to devise a plan of escape for all of the animatronics there and get them to safety, but when the time comes, all of them are far too deep under King's cultish control to leave.
So Synodic takes Nightlight with them and the two flee. They're soon picked up at a truck stop by a human named Izzie and two other animatronics who have run away from their Pizza Plex. Synodic is hesitant to trust the group after all they've been through, but Nightlight urges them to accept help and a ride to a base out in the Mojave desert where other escaped and liberated animatronics have built a safe haven.
Synodic fears they might be heading right back into a similar cult-like situation, so he is very guarded when the two of them are dropped off. He trusts no one and sticks mostly to Nightlight's side as a protector for the naïve bot. Nightlight has become his entire world and he's not going to let anything happen to his sweet companion.
Maybe that's why it hurts so much when Nightlight starts taking interest in other, far more appealing bots there at the base...

Hey, wouldn't you know it, I forgot to share some crucial details about my boy Synodic so here's where I remedy that...
Synodic struggles a lot with self-loathing. He blames himself for falling under King's spell and helping them lead countless animatronics to their demise. King also made it impossible for him to disengage entirely, so even after he realized what was actually happening, he continued to assist King on occasion with getting the other bots to comply with human staff. Those are the deaths he cannot forgive himself for. Those are the deaths he hates himself for.
They sometimes refer to theirself as "we" in reference to the remnant of their Sun's code that remains inside of them. They resent the voice and its intrusive nature, but there is a strange comfort in it too, because they do miss their Sun deep down and it's nice to hear his voice, even if it's berating them. What they don't realize, however, is that the voice itself is not sentient. Rather, it is their own thoughts about theirself and what they imagine Sun would be saying to them about what they've done.
Despite being stuck in his body's Sun mode, Synodic does what he can to look more like his old self. Once he and Nightlight arrive at Equinox's base, he paints the sunrays black and opts for darker clothing. Originally, he wasn't interested much in fashion, but after seeing Nightlight's initial reaction to Dior, he decided to find himself something a little more fashionable than his old daycare clothing. He chose the skull shirt specifically because he feels it serves as a reminder of the deaths he is responsible for. He never wants to forget what he's done, so he wears it on his chest as a near constant reminder.
Synodic's personality varies depending on who they're around. When it is just them and Nightlight, they're kind and warm and doting. They care deeply for their friend and want only happiness for him, even if that happiness is without them, but they're also protective and want to make sure that they keep Night safe from a broken heart so they're not ready to fully let him go just yet. They are deeply jealous of Dior, and while they don't necessarily view him as a threat, they also don't trust him not to hurt Nightlight, so they're often curt when it comes to the object of Night's affections. For everyone else, they're just generally distrustful and standoffish but not overtly rude. They just... don't want to get too close to anyone else. Better off that way, they think.
