I was talking to my old professor the other day. We got into a conversation about, where she lived. Whole bunch of stuff, the weather, locals stores, stuff like that.
Eventually she made a joke about how superficial how people could be there, I asked how. She talked about people getting cosmetic surgery for birthdays, she explained that it wasn't uncommon for people to get rhinoplasty for their 15th or 16th birthday.
I thought that was an exaggeration at first. There is no way that's actually true, that too young to have unnecessary surgery, right? When she clarified that it wasn't some sort of joke, I think I felt my heart break. There are kids sculpting their face permanently because of insecurities pushed onto them, all while their parents are feeding into it by paying these surgeons. Kids make permanent changes to their faces and they can't even drive yet! It's so predatory!!!
