A good SBOM workflow starts with the artefact you actually deploy. If you build container images, scan the final image with Syft, then keep the SBOM with the image digest and release ID. That gives you a reliable record for later vulnerability checks and supplier questions. Source scans can still be useful earlier in development, but they do not always show build-time additions or base image packages. For UK teams, that distinction matters when a new issue affects an older release. A clean release record makes triage faster and more defensible.
