Say You'll Be Mine | Feat. Alaric Hudson
Leave a “Wed Me” in my ask, and I’ll write a drabble about our character under the subject of wedlock [be it my character proposing to yours, or marrying yours, feel free to specify.]
This was it. Now or never. Too late to chicken out now and bring his boyfriend back to their hotel room. They were already treading over the peeling green paint outline of their old foursquare hangout. Xavier squeezed the boy’s hand gently, their fingers intertwined just as they’d done as children. Nervous teeth found their way to the inside of his cheek, chewing anxiously as he scanned the playground laid out ahead of them. Everything had to be perfect, flawless, completely and utterly problem-free if it was going to be worthy of the boy whose big brown eyes were gazing calmly at the blanket of stars sitting above their heads. Their trip had taken several weeks of careful, meticulous planning and numerous phone calls to his moms, but it was all necessary, there was no other place to do this. Nowhere else would ever be adequate.
“If you keep doing that your cheek will bleed.” A light chuckle filled the space between them, as Xavier turned his head to face the source of the broken silence. Teeth slowly released their hold, a tender smile growing across the blonde’s face at the sight of the boy. Caressed ever so gently by the soft moonlight, Alaric Hudson took his breath away. Glimmering eyes pulling the boy into pools of chocolate brown, grounding him, keeping Xavier from letting the thousands of winged creatures inside his stomach carry him away into the illuminated night sky. “Xav…” The taller boy trailed off questioningly. “Shh.” Xavier hastily replied, taking the hand he was currently holding and pressing it lovingly against his soft lips. Moving his gaze away from his boyfriend in fear of giving too much away, blues focussed in on the dark landscape ahead. But Alaric wouldn’t give up so easily. “Why are we…” Xavier shushed him once more.
“Why did you bring me back to LA?”
“Shh.” Another kiss was placed against Alaric’s hand.
“And why are we at our old elementary school?”
Xavier’s smile grew as he spoke his next sentence, “Shh, we’re almost there.”
Alaric had been too distracted with questioning the smaller boy’s motives that he didn’t notice the glowing light they were currently getting closer and closer to. Wordlessly, Xavier released his grip on his boyfriend’s hand, stepping behind him and placing his hands over chocolate browns, blinding them from the surprise.
“Xavier… What are yo-”
“Shh.”
Reluctantly, the dark haired boy finally came to a silence, allowing Xavier to push him gently forward until the two finally came to a halt. “Ready?” Xavier’s soft voice lingered in the summer air. An incredulous chuckle left Alaric’s mouth. “I was ready a couple of hours ago when you kidnapped me for this ‘surprise road trip’.” No backing out now. You can do this. It was always meant to happen. Written in the stars, remember? Xavier’s thoughts encouraged him further, finally convincing the boy to let his hands fall and reveal his hidden surprise. Sitting proudly in front of the pair cloaked underneath a white sheet was an old, familiar piece of playground equipment. Xavier moved away from his boyfriend, taking a place next to the side of the slide and lifting up one of the sheet’s walls. “Well… Aren’t you going to come in?” Puppy dog blues glanced up at Alaric, encouraging the brown haired boy to take a few steps forward and look inside the Wonderland that the smaller boy had created.
Colourful, plush cushions lined the ground. Each one covering up every patch of concrete, until they looked like the forts he Xavier and Alaric had spent hours making as children. At one end of the slide fort was an old lamp that the boys used to take camping with them. Cramped up in a small tent Damien would have the lamp illuminate his face, casting menacing shadows as he told the scariest stories out of any of them. The tales of ghosts, exorcisms, and demons used to result in the blonde cuddling into Alaric for support. “Xavi, I…” Alaric looked at the boy, wide eyed and completely at a loss for words. The smaller boy’s face lit up with his boyfriend’s reaction. The amount of love that he held for Alaric Hudson, even since the beginning, had consumed him entirely. Everything reminded him of the boy who dried his tears the first day they met. And since then, nothing could ever amount to him. “Shh. At least go inside first.” Each word spoke softly with the adoration he felt for his boyfriend.
It wasn’t until the pair was nestled inside the fort that Xavier’s nerves finally kicked in completely. Every anxious thought found its way into his mind, circling around faster and faster until they were spinning at hyper speed. “I…” He began quietly, flicking his gaze back to the older boy, ceruleans locking on shining brown eyes. “Look up.” Xavier finally squeaked out, watching Alaric’s puzzled expression change to one of pure disbelief. Stuck upon the bottom of the slide were a handful of childhood photos of the pair, nestled amongst glow in the dark stars lining the roof of their fort. Without a noise, the youngest Lopez-Pierce turned off the lamp, reaching behind him and picking up a bag that had been hidden away behind cushions. “I can’t… Xav! There’s the photo of us at Halloween! Look at you; I still can’t believe you begged your parents to let you go as Ferris Bueller. Nobody our age knew who you were! And there’s us at the lake!” Alaric grinned wildly, laughing as he commented and pointed at each photo until the time came where he began asking questions. “How…? Just… When did you…? Why are you doing all of-” The brunette fell silent suddenly, brown eyes on the gift bag being held out to him. “Go on and look inside.” Xavier grinned, his voice wavering slightly with nerves as he turned the lamp back on. Alaric reached in, his hand coming in contact with soft fabric. Slowly, he pulled the mystery object out, a gasp escaping his lips once he saw what it was. “You didn’t get me… No. You didn’t.” “I did.” Xavier replied. “No, you didn’t.” A laugh passed the blonde boy’s lips as he spoke once more, “I did.” Alaric held out the shirt at arms-length, bursting into a fit of incredulous laughter. “It looks just like the one you had on the first day we…” “I know.” “But… It… Cat shirt.” Alaric looked back at his boyfriend; his face forming the sweet puppy face the small boy knew and loved. It’s time, Xavier. With a singular anxious gulp, Xavier prepared himself for the moment that was about to happen. “Check… Check the tag.” The small boy trembled slightly, fearful of how his beloved would react. He watched as the brunette stuck his hand up the bottom of the t-shirt in search of the washing tag, his eyes now becoming wider than Xavier had ever seen. Alaric’s shaking hands nimbly removed the ribbon attaching the ring to the tag, taking one look at the gleaming golden band before the jaw-dropped boy looked towards his blue eyed boyfriend for an explanation.
“E-Ever since we first met, I’ve known you were special. From the moment you dried my tears and invited me to play with you, I’ve known that you were different than anyone else I’d ever met. And although it would take a few years for me to figure out just what those feelings meant, I still knew you were something else. I’ve been emotionally bound to you since day one, even when I didn’t know what I was feeling, I was bound.” The blonde exhaled deeply, reaching out and taking one of his beloved’s hands in his, his thumbs gently caressing the soft skin of Alaric’s hand. “You’ll never know just how much I love you, for the simple reason that it’s immeasurable. No amount of words will ever do my feelings for you any justice, no romantic gestures, nothing. If you accept this ring as a symbol of only a small fragment of my complete adoration for you, then you’ll make me the most clichéd, and happiest person in this universe, and every other one.” Small tears pricked at the corner of Xavier’s eyes, gleaming white teeth appearing from parted lips. “What I’m trying to say is… Alaric Hudson… Ric… Ricky… Will you do me the honour of becoming my husband?” As soon as the words left his mouth, the blonde looked downwards, fear gripping his heart and twisting it tightly as he awaited an answer. The only indication that Xavier had that Alaric was still alive was the shocked exhale of breath. Slowly, the boy directed his gaze back upwards only to see the tears streaming down his boyfriend’s cheeks as he nodded silently, the ability to form sentences escaping him completely. “I… Is that a ye-” Xavier was cut off by the boy in front of him. “Shh.” Alaric muttered, leaning in to capture his fiancé’s lips in a passionate kiss. The only way he could show the love of his life just how much of a yes his answer was.
