in honor of Star Wars day, thought I’d share some art I made for a force and destiny (Star Wars ttrpg) campaign I ran. And yes, our minis WERE Lego, thank you for noticing. And yes, those are mugshots.
May the Fourth be with you all!
I've been plunged deep into my Star Wars hyper fixation which is not helped by the Edge of the Empire game that I'm running with some of my closest friends. And they follow me on other platforms so I'm gonna use this as an excuse to go off about it without them knowing. Like, I love the game I just wanna ramble about our characters.
Okay, so the game takes place in 30BBY, for those not quite as familiar with the Star Wars timeline we're two years post Episode I (The Phantom Menace), but 8 years before Episode II (Attack of the Clones) we're also using mostly Legends continuity!
Our characters start on the outer rim on the planet Accine (home brewed planet by DM) as barely more than slaves (well, two of us were little more than slaves...). The three of us join forces to save a group of other workers who got trapped by a collapsed hallway. The planet is mostly uninhabitable and the broken walls were letting the unlivable atmosphere into the living quarters. The three of us work together and end up starting a workers revolt but have to flee the planet without the families of two of the players families.
Finally, who are these players?
First is Kari, a red twi'lek first born on Ryloth whose parents sold her into slavery. But as we find out in the get away she's a crack shot pilot!
Secondly is Dhefna Iomoq, a rodian who grew up on Accine with her family. Her knowledge of tech was invaluable in the takeover as she was able to slice her way into the systems.
And finally, my character, Cabur Bravik a mandalorian who spent the first bit of his childhood on Mandalore before the civil war that was happening at the time turned baaaad. I know the most about Cabur, so I'm obviously gonna talk the most about him. (And yes, I know I kinda fucked myself with that timeline a bit. Mandalore has had so many civil wars and the one I originally wrote this backstory on I forgot how close it is to the present of the game so I had to fudge things a bit I was very new to legends lore when we started this game okay be nice).
After we got off Accine we all headed to Tatooine, yay a familiar planet! While Dhefna and Cabur try to figure out how to get back to their families Kari runs off and makes a deal with Bib Fortuna and saddles the group (still barely held together with only a loose trauma bond) with a bunch of debt in exchange for a beat up YT freighter. Yes, you read that right. We got a YT like session 3. (A YT is the same model of ship as the Millennium Falcon fyi)
Now indebted to the Hutts the gang takes a mission in hopes to ease the debt. Assassinate a junior senator. Which is an absolute disaster. Yeah the guy is killed and none of the team dies but it is not handled with grace and the team is forced to flee Tatooine at light speed. And that is without gathering any supplies whatsoever. Uh, tw: cannibalism. Yeah, Dhefna and Kari end up eating the body of the junior senator. (Cabur refused on principle.)
The YT comes out of hyperspace in a random location, but the gang sees a Separatist command ship with none other than Count Dooku aboard. And guess what he reveals to the gang? We've got three force sensitives on our hands!
Also yes, we've got a new branch of the disaster lineage baybee!
Different members of the crew took to the news differently. Kari threw herself into saber training. Dhefna was kinda neutral about it. And Cabur got to grapple with having ties with two of the most hated outsider groups of his culture.
Without having heard from Bib the gang spends time learning the ways of the force with Dooku until he sends them on a mission to the Bisoc system, a test. But first a sparing match. Three sentients who can barely work together against an ex-jedi master? Needless to say it did not work well.
They gang are sent to recover the Wayfinder of Tylas. Things do not go well on the jungle planet for our "heroes". They encounter an old old mandalorian stronghold that had evidence of extremely unfavorable experimentation going on. Namely one genetically engineered creature called the Jettisekyr'a. For those not versed in Mando'a that translates roughly to Jedi killer.
Cabur got right fucked up by that thing. Lost his left arm in the fight. Which, hey losing your left arm Star Wars main character moment lmao. There was a moment on the planet before the gang even made it to the base where Dhefna the least combat focused of any of them was the last one standing and had to drag unconscious bodies through the jungle. But the gang found the Wayfinder and one more thing.
What else to find in an ancient mandalorian stronghold but Mandalore's Mask.
Now I haven't talked a lot about Cabur's ideology because I was trying to run down the campaign itself but now we kinda have to get into it.
The Bravik clan was small, tight knit. Just the buire (parents) Gra'tia and Ranov, and the ad (child) Cabur. When civil war broke out on Mandalore over the right way to rule the planet clan Bravik stayed quiet. Of course they supported their Mandalore! But that support ran deeper than it appeared on the surface. The Bravik's weren't fighters, not in the traditional sense. No, Gra'tia and Ranov were starship engineers. But they weren't pacifistic either! They simply couldn't afford to get dragged into direct conflict that was bubbling planet wide despite the major conflicts of the war happening across the stars.
Cabur was born just a few short years after Jaster Mereel rose to the rank of Mandalore, not long after fighting between those loyal to the Mandalore (known as True Mandolorians) and the Death Watch (those loyal to Tor Vizla the self proclaimed secret Mandalore).
When Jaster Mereel fell during the Battle of Korda Six clan Bravik made the tough decision to flee. With their only child just barely being considered adiik (a kid aged 3-13) they left the home world to avoid persecution from the Death Watch.
Cabur was raised to believe in the ideology of the True Mandolorians. Neither the pacifist beliefs of the New Mandolorians, nor the power hungry ways of the Death Watch. So, now that he's got a hold of Mandalore's Mask he sees it as a way to restore the way of the True Mandolorians. Though he's under no delusions that it's going to be easy.
Okay this post is long and barely covers a what I wanted to talk about like personal connections, the other mishaps on the mission, when the gang's force powers actually awaken, and a ton of other stuff so I'll break off here and make another post later.
You might be seeing nothing but Kory and Rusty for a while...
Cough.
Figuring out Clip Studio Paint too which is.... so very similar to photoshop and yet so different, it keeps catching me out lol
Mm..... So... So apparently bored me is making New OCs instead of doing what I was GONNA do: make character sheets for the ones I've got.
Curse the SW TTRPG maker cause now I've got two new kids and both are Very Sad.
