Notes on Norvath
History - The Eternals
The dragons made by the Old God Telar’s dying hand are known as the Eternals. A great many of them were slain in their war against the mortals and while dragons were plentiful for centuries after the war’s end, few Eternals remain. Unlike their offspring these Eternals are not known to die of old age, though only time can tell for sure. The dracnid people regard the Eternals as gods, and ask for their guidance and blessings in times of need. Notable Eternals include:
Scryon Widely accepted to be the most powerful dragon who ever lived, Scryon is the king of all dragons. He is known for leading the dragon armies during the Divine War and for winning many battles against the mortal races. Though his tactics and ferocity were celebrated, he is also among the first to realize that the war could only end in the destruction of both sides as long as the fighting continued. He and his council met with the mortals several times and eventually was able to negotiate peace. Scryon is known as the God of War and Peace to the dracnids.
Many legends and works of art depict Scryon as being much larger than he actually is to emphasize his greatness. In reality, Scyron is on the small side for a dragon, barely big enough to carry a single person on his back. What he lacks in size he makes up for in speed and strength. Being a master of lightning, Scryon can command storms and spew powerful lighting bolts from his mouth. Though his scales are naturally black, he often appears to be metallic after consuming large quantities of gold and other highly conductive metals.
It is believed Scryon still lives and roams Norvath, but he has not been seen or heard from in centuries.
Gawna In the farthest reaches of Norvath’s frigid north, Gawna lives by herself under a large mountain. There, she watches over a large dragon nursery known as Solazalos. When dragon parents are unable to care for their eggs, they bring them to Gawna, who protects them from harm. These days most eggs in the Solazalos have lain dormant for centuries, a condition induced by Gawna as she does not believe the world is safe for dragons at this time, especially young ones.
Though Gawna has a grumpy disposition, she is known to have a kind heart. She is a master of snow and ice, and while she would deny it, she has been observed protecting nearby arag villages from avalanches. Her coat is bright white with dark spots, and her sprawling antlers are stark black. It is said that garments woven from Gawna’s fur are incredibly warm and soft, but no one has been brave enough to ask if they could borrow some.
Swide Peaceful and stoic, Swide is the sworn protector of the Dracnia capital city, Drekkenhurt. She has been especially popular among children, who loved to listen to her jokes and stories. After the dracnids vanished, Swide remained in Drekkenhurt, doing her best to protect the city from the forces of nature in case her ward were ever to return.
Having a strong affinity to stone and soil, it is said that Swide is strong enough to move mountains. She never uses her power offensively, and wants only to keep the peace.
Kikaraké Kikaraké was an evil and twisted dragon. He once aimed to usurp Scryon and make dragons the most powerful and most feared creatures in Norvath. He planned to enslave the mortal races and reshape the continent in his vision. Though he ultimately failed, he left decent portions of Norvath in ruin and earned the title of Tyrant King. His followers were all eradicated or imprisoned.
Though his black hide once shone with a brilliant iridescence, the dark spells he performed eventually corrupted his soul and deteriorated his body. At the time of his execution, Kirakaké’s scales were dull and cracked, and a thick ooze seeped from his wounds.
