The problem is that I really want to She Wore Her Blood Like Armour because I love the actual characters so much and I love Samael so much and I love saying "fuck you douchecanoe" to the entire action/fantasy genre because this is an action/fantasy with vampires and angels and power struggles and torture and slavery and some really messed up fight scenes but all the major characters are these woc and one's disabled and one's a princess and one's trans and one's in a polyamorous relationship and they're all such amazing women and so far removed from that 30yo white man with stubble. And I love it so much.
But I have literally been writing In The Shadow of the Sun for seven years. I have a complete plot. I have scenes that make me want to throw up from the emotions. I have an intensely complex multi-cultural world and there is so much I love about this story. It's just that my wonder and sense of expectation are beginning to wear off and while I'm in love with the character relationships I don't love the characters themselves.Â
But I think I will have to give ITSOTS another really hard go this year. I don't even really enjoy writing SWHBLA that much anyway. So, I will give ITSOTS another good hard go, and then maybe if that doesn't pan out I will put it away again for a while. But I need to start dedicating myself to one work.
