Imagine while on a travel with Death, the two of you get into a pretty heavy fight. (I mean, the horseman is ridiculously stubborn.) The two of you occasionally get into small spats, but nothing to this amount. You knew the horseman was un-phased, but you were hurt. Its easy for the pale horseman to become quite the condescending asshole when heβs cranky.
The two of you ride in silence until itβs time to rest for the night. You make a little spot for yourself, same as always, before getting a much needed nights rest.
Death usually takes this time to venture off and investigate the area. But this time, he sits silently besides you, not daring to leave your side.
When you wake, you see him close to you, staring into the sunrise. It surprises you, as heβs usually mounted on Despair, eager to leave quickly.
βAre you ready to go?β He asks in a calm tone, still staring off in the distance. With a nod, you collect yourself, and walk over to him. βNow that weβre both relaxed... letβs continue our mission.β He stands,βUnless thereβs anything else you need?β You shake your head.
You follow him to Despair, pondering to yourself. Death seemed unusually calm and patient. And he never asked if you needed anything. As you watch him climb his mount, you smile to yourself. It hit you.
Death leaned down offering his hand to help you up the giant steed. βAnd what the hell are you grinning about?β
You clasp his hand and hoist yourself up behind him, holding tightly. βOh nothing. I accept your apology by the way.β
βWhat apology? I never said anything.β He kicks the decayed horse, going into a slow gallop. With a roll of your eyes, you lean your head into the crook of his neck, humming happily as the two of you ride along.
βYou didnβt have to. Thank you, Death.β
The horseman was thankful for his mask at that moment, considering you would have seen his rare, small smile without it. He merely grunts in reply, inwardly enjoying your close presence as he makes his way towards his destination.
