But then in my stages of denial, my shipper self reminded me that Kaito dressed up as Hakuba (again) and then i just died.

He had mentioned Toichi being alive in the extra author commentary of vol 5 of the MK treasured editions. Maybe mentioned it in another interview. (I’d have to look that up.)

The reason the ire is up again is because someone just asked about it (and the ramifications of Kaito knowing) in an in-person interview during his Let’s Talk day of 2019. The other times he mentioned Toichi was like ‘you should have seen everyone’s faces when I said Toichi is actually alive’ and getting a question in general about Toichi and being like ‘moreover, he isn’t really dead’. This is the first time someone’s brought Toichi being dead up to him, and his response to the problems it could cause is basically ‘Kaito doesn’t know, and it’s fine so long as he doesn’t find out, I don’t plan on letting him find out right now’.

Ugh, there’s too many! >.< Idk, a really random one is that Seven gets really annoyed with his own bangs when he’s working. So he ties them up in a mini ponytail, so Vanderwood will find him with this little sprig of red sticking up from the top of his head.

 I stumbled across it in the app store a few times. Um...I didn’t download it for months because I actually thought it was a legit chatrooms with real people.

I wonder if the “Kid can poof away whenever” is because it’s easier to write/handle than having to come up with a logical explanation as to how he does it? Especially in DetCo when the focus is about Conan figuring out his tricks, and not the heist from Kaito’s point of view from planning to escaping

Maybe. But to that I ask: Why write it where he’s cornered at all? I understand the shipping ones trying to create sexual tension, but there are plenty of fics out there that casually make him the worlds best escapist to where no explanation is given even though what’s done isn’t possible. 

Gosho actually does a lot on the ‘this seems cool’ kind of writing, but Kaito... isn’t subject to that in DC too often? The only time I can think of where Kaito makes a 'okay but how did he do that’ escape was when he was trapped in a bathroom stall, really, and that was long after he’d been given the reputation of being able to escape in two seconds. Gosho actually does a pretty good job at showing you how simple his escape methods are for normal heists, and telling us how he does things in DC, too.

Well, since MK and DC in universes where ‘no actual time has passed, everything is just written based on how things look outside the window’, it’s hard to say with certainty how long things have been going on. Plot dialogue, they consistently say ‘8 years’ as the time Toichi died and Kid disappeared. Best seen in later chapters with Nightmare. So in one sense, it’s less than a year, since Toichi hasn’t been dead 9 years yet.

On the other hand, you could look at specific mentions of times and holidays, sure. Which would indicate a year and a half, since you have Valentine with Akako, Christmas with the star theft, and then Aoko’s birthday, which Gosho has confirmed to be in September in his commentary for vol 4 of MK.

Or you can go with clothes changes between chapters that swap between winter and summer. Which, would be the same as the above through Blue Birthday, and then after ‘September’ is changes to summer clothes in chapter 25, winter in chapter 27, back to summer in 29, and then winter in 31+. Which to September was over one year, getting back to winter clothes twice adds two more, to make three years.
