i’d think that behavioral issues with double merles would be from poor breeding (as any decent breeder isn’t breeding double merles on purpose), or from blindness/deafness/partial blindness or deafness/other birth defects that might cause pain or or limit the dog.  i think there are definitely bybs who get into breeds with merle coats because their pretty/exotic looking and sell well, and most poorly breed herding dogs will tend towards fear reactivity and anxiety. so i guess it’s a correlation doesn’t equal causation kind of thing? unless an scientific study can prove otherwise.  i’m sure you’ll be looking to get a dog from a responsible breeder who is breeding stable dogs in both conformation and temperament any coat type or color should be fine.  and good luck with your dog hunt!! i hope you find a dog that’s perfect for you
