Hard work, man, I’m telling ya. It’s the best.
We built one of these last year and it took 3.5 hours. Today it took 2.5. We are stronger and we’ve done it before, but most significantly, I am more confident than I’ve ever been about understanding the instructions and working half or one step ahead so it becomes an overlapping joint effort. So awesome.
Also, “you must have at least 4 people to lift the platform?” Please. 💪🏼💪🏽

Hard day of field work. Tons of cutting and clearing. Got super dirty and sweaty and cut up, par for the course. Steve did the treestand work. And for the first time - because I’m stronger than I’ve ever been - I put together the pole saw chainsaw and cut five tree branches off myself, some while standing in the bed of the atv. I was very proud. Today felt like good old fashioned sweat equity. Never be afraid of a day of hard work. It’s the best thing. (Bonus: some awesome downtown and sunrise photos from the drives.)

5 hours of field work at our hunting property. We actually started work this year while it’s still cold instead of waiting until the horribleness of Texas summer. It’s been 10 years since we started work this early after hunting season closed. Thanks, sobriety. Thanks, fitness level.
Most of these hours were spent cutting and clearing nonstop. My forearms are going to be utterly dead tomorrow. My hands are in pain. My fingers are all torn up from thorns (even with wearing gloves). But man. So worth it to get out and get this done in the cold. Started the day at 23 degrees and ended at 35. All that work and we never even broke a sweat. Amazing.

These photos don't do justice to the work we did yesterday. Another 5 hours. Finished the new treestand set. Steve is so strong. :) A ton more clearing and cutting down the main road we usually use and then anything that needed to be cut away at each stand set to make sure there are clear shooting lanes come late September.
We also took a drive around the whole property to appreciate the view. And now this is it until we can get back in a few weeks. I'm happy for the break.
Field work was intense today. Not sure how apparent it is, but Steve and I are entirely soaked through with sweat in these photos. It was 3 hours of mostly clearing and cutting and tree and brush disposal and if you’ve ever done that kind of work you know it’s some of the hardest work there is.
At the end I just sat my ass down in the middle of the woods with no regard to bugs or plants. I was just so exhausted I couldn’t keep standing up.
It will be worth it to have new deep woods spots set up for next season and we were very proud of our efforts but oof. We have 3 or 4 more Saturdays like this before the end of September/start of bowhunting season. Just gotta get it done.
