ahem. yeah. explanation below
sense i feel like iāll never get around to writing their story iām just gonna explain them. (original idea from joku of course)Ā
so itās a pretty standard swap dreamtale story, dream ate a golden apple and he simply couldnāt stop eating them as if his soul needed to become one with the tree again. (the tree wanted to remake a guardian that was one being again) but nightmare was scared of how much dreamās personality was changing, his naive little brother was now even more soft spoken than before but seemed to command peoples attention, and his aura was unbearably bright. dream tried to convince night to join him in bonding with the tree once again but night strait up refused.
a lot of miscommunication later, night couldnāt be with his brother anymore without being extremely uncomfortable. like he would start sobbing with just a bit of the aura on him. deciding to take matters into his own hands, tired of waiting for night to agree to the plan, dream confronted night one evening. night repeatedly told him to leave him alone, but with dream refusing it lead to a fight. it ended up with night locked in stone for āhundreds?ā of years. (dream obviously didnāt want that)
while night was out the world completely transformed into something irreconcilable. free will, emotions, decisions, everything was muddled. everyone seemed completely content, enjoying their selves. but it was hollow. no one knew what they had or how they felt. going back to the tree he finds it chopped down, all apples of either side gone. night kinda stuck out like a sore thumb with how different his aura felt compared to everyone else. he works on his magic. he learns to hide his presence, makes his kusarigama and gets his new outfit. (notice that night didnāt eat any apple so his soul is just vapor)Ā
he spies on dream whoās a fair king listening and giving anything that is asked. night plans to assassinate dream. he knows this isnāt healthy for the universe he needs to get the balance back. he fails his first attempt and then hijinks ensue

the quotations are dream trying to convince nightmare that the new world heās made is for the better for everyone. itās almost all from nightās perspective but the end has a little bit of dreamās in there.

so days is imo about someone who has trouble seeing good in things and idealizes death and all that jazz (relatable) and lets the world go on without them so sick of not understanding what they should or being what they want. ends with night inevitably loosing to dream.
