I dont dance (Swapdance self insert)
A/N: this is just a self indulgent piece because i havent done one in ages and goddammit i like the concept of a dancy sweet toothed boifren. Dont wanna read my crappy 3 am writing? Then dont.
Chara had freed the monsters from the underground years ago, and with them they brought dance. Beautiful, magical dance. Anyone was lucky to engage in a dance with a monster, be it for battle or otherwise. Luckily, most were friendly. They only used dance as a way to get to know someone better. Their style of dance, if they are friendly, as games. Nothing escalated.
Unless of course, you accidentally run into a short skeleton in the hallway because you were late to an event. Which wasnt even that day. Or in that building. ...It had been a bad day. An especially bad day when his (taller, scarier) brother showed up, ready to kick your butt in a dance battle when you didnt even know how to dance.
A few years have passed since then. I didnt get my butt handed to me, and I became best friends with both of them. Particularly with Papyrus. Papy for short. A breakdancer. I may or may not have a crush on him. For a while. His salsa-dancing older brother Sans (or BB, as he prefers) knows all about it, and always asks me when Im going to ask him out. But I cant, Im too nervous.
"Oh come on Ari! You have to have some courage in you and simply ask him! Im positive that he would say yes!" BB smiled at me as he put the batter down for the cake we were baking.
"Yeah right. He would probably laugh. Why would he want to date me? I dont even know how to dance. You know as well as I do that its a pretty important part of your culture." I got out the pans and set them on the countertop.
He gave me a serious look. "But theres so much more about you to like! You have a Kind soul and youre so nice to us! Youre like a sister to me, and youre Papy's best friend. I think you have a shot, even without the dancing!"
I sighed as I poured the batter to the pans. I didnt think so..
"Howzit goin?" A voice from behind me, familiar in a syrupy and friendly tone.
I squeaked and nearly dropped the bowl. Dang I hated when he snuck up behind me though-
"Hello brother! We were just talking about you!" BB beamed. "Ari was going to ask you something!" He gave me a pointed look, glancing at the taller of the two.
I rolled my eyes. Not gonna happen. "Yeah Papy, can you stop sneaking up behind me? 'S freaky."
BB sighed with a small frown as his bro grinned. "Oh really? Like...this?" Papy just about growled, coming up closer behind me, his eye sparking with magic. I knew there was no malice behind it, but the suddeness of it still made me jump.
I smacked him lightly. "Yes exactly like that! Quit it!"
He chuckled, putting his hands up in surrender. "Alright, I'll stop. What kind of cake are you two baking?" He leaned over my shoulder, making me blush from his proximity.
"I-its a vanilla and raspberry cake for a party Undyne is hosting. She needed some help with the food, so me and your bro volunteered."
BB suddenly snapped to attention. "Oh, that reminds me! I forgot to pick up some things from Alphys' house for the frosting!" I glanced at him, and Papy raised a brow.
"I'll be back later, you two finish making the cake, okay?" He looked at me. For an instant, I swear I saw a gleam in his eye. Oh my gosh he was-
"Uh, okay bro." Pap shrugged. "We can handle it. Right Ari?" He glanced down at me with a smile and wink. I blushed harder. Oh gosh BB why?? Why would you purposley leave me alone with him??
"Um, yeah okay." Oh I was so going to get him back later.
"Great! See you two later!" And with that he put on his shoes and was out the door.
Me and Papy finished the cake as asked, putting it into the oven. Then we spent a while just chatting as friends. It was nice, and I almost forgot about why his bro left us alone together in the first place.
"Oh, hey Ari, I've been meaning to ask you something."
"Whats your dance style?"
I froze up. "I...Why do you want to know?"
He shrugged. "Ive known you a while now, and I still dont know what your dance style is. Everyone's got one. So, whats yours?"
Oh shoot. I knew this would come up. I glanced down, averting his gaze. "I...I dont dance." Mumbled. Ashamed almost.
Now it was his turn to be speechless. "What?"
"I dont dance. I mean, apart from the awkward chair dance from time to time." Great, now I was really embarrassed.
There was a few moments of tense silence. Then he broke it. "I dont believe it."
"W-what?" I looked back up at him. He had a sort of...determination in his eyes that I had never seen before.
"Everyone has a dance style. How about we just find yours?" He stood and offered a hand to me. Wait, was he blushing? "So what Im saying is..Will you dance with me?"
I was speechless. I had only ever seen him dance a few times before, but I knew I was miles behind him. I could never match up to him.
"I dont know...Im not as good as you are."
He seemed surprised by that. "I..could teach you. If you want." His tone was hesitant, but not bad.
I looked up at him. "Really?"
He nodded. Okay, he was blushing. Why??
I stood, taking his hand with a small smile. "Okay, I'll dance with you."
We went to the living room, pushing the sofa out of the way and setting up a speaker. He showed me a few basic moves without music first, mainly some things that both him and his brother knew. A mix of latin dancing and hip hop. He said he knew both, so whichever I chose he could adapt to. Which was good, because for some reason I was really liking the sway of the latin moves he showed me. He had a dusting of orange over his features the whole time he taught though. Maybe he was hot in his hoodie?
After I got some practice with that, he handed me his phone. "Youre not half bad so far Ari." I blushed at the compliment. "Here, you pick a song. Whatever feels like it will move your body."
I took it, my hands moving on their own. Soon we were in the middle of the living room, face to face as the beat started up. His eyes widened at my choice, but he didnt protest. Instead, he smiled and pulled his hood up like he always did when he danced, and faced me. "Alright then. Mimic my movements." I smiled and nodded, a grin appearing on my face.

((I do more of the first group, his looks more like the last guy))
We danced side by side, going wild. I got lost in the music, not even realizing my body was moving so close to his. By the end, we faced each other, panting and flushed. I noticed that his hood had fallen down somewhere in the process, but he didnt seem to realize it.
He smiled at me. "I thought you said you didnt dance. That was by far, the best dancing Ive ever seen."
"Th-thanks." I smiled. I had never felt so energized. It made me act on impulse.
So the fact that I leaned up and kissed his cheek was a surprise to the both of us.
There was a second of stunned silence. Then he blushed about as much as I did, and I pulled back, about to scream from embarassment. "O-oh my gosh Papy Im sorry I dont know what came over me-"
"Hey." He cut me off with a tone I hadnt heard before. Was he mad? Oh god he was mad wasnt he- "You missed." Huh??
He came closer to me. Then put an arm around my waist, pulling me close and leaning down to kiss me. A kiss on the lips. Did it feel weird? A little. But it was also the best kiss I ever had.
We pulled away far too soon. "Man, you have no idea how long I have wanted to do that.." Papy smiled, breathless. I could only gaze up at him, eyes wide with awe.
We probably could have stayed like that a while, except we were inturrupted by a very loud "FINALLY!" from the door.
The response was instantaneous. I squeaked and hid my face in Papy's chest, and he pulled me closer, startling a bit. "B-bro!?! Come on! You ruined the moment! Wait is that a camera??" A peeked out. Indeed, BB was grinning and holding his phone like he was recording us.
"Yep! Got the whole dance on film, plus your first kiss! Awe, lookit my little brother, growing up so fast!" His tone was teasing, but it was obvious he was happy for us. "I came back to take the cake out of the oven like half an hour ago, you didnt notice me."
I smiled a bit. Oh boy.. Papy kissed the top of my head and I giggled. "Well honey, I will sort out the details with you later, but maybe consider being my girlfriend? Right now I have to get my hands on that camera.." he grinned mischievously at his older brother.
"Papy, dont do it, you know I can dodge anything.." BB's tone was warning.
"Yeah, but I can try!" And with that they were off, chasing one another around the house and leaving me in the living room.
...Girlfriend, huh? Sounded pretty good to me.
