Earth Hour is a global movement that encourages individuals, businesses and governments around the world to take action against climate change and make a commitment to the planet by switching off all non-essential lights and appliances from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on March 23, 2013.
Show your campus pride by participating in the “One Hour, No Power: Campus Challenge”, running March 8 to 23. This is the fourth annual Earth Hour competition hosted by the University of Alberta’s Office of Sustainability. Twelve post-secondary schools from across Alberta, from Medicine Hat to Grand Prairie, are teaming up to see which school can get the best participation of students, staff and faculty to pledge to participate in Earth Hour 2013.
All UAlberta participants will be entered to win one of five $100 Bookstore gift cards.

Darkest Tower for the Hour Contest – Calling all Lister Centre residents! This year marks the third annual Darkest Tower for the Hour competition in celebration of Earth Hour. Hosted in conjunction with Residence Services, the Lister tower that has the highest participation will win a pizza party, courtesy of Aramark. The winning floor will receive a Nintendo Wii U! Lights Out Flash Mob - On Saturday March 23, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., students will be invited to help their UAlberta campus participate in Earth Hour. In groups of two, volunteers will travel from building to building shutting off as many lights as they can during that one hour. All who participate will celebrate with a pizza party and receive their very own Office of Sustainability water bottle. The team that turns off the greatest number of lights during the hour will win an eco-friendly prize pack.
