for anyone anxious about driving in this crappy weather that would like to know how the roads are before heading out, i have found a site for us all:

has links for individual states to places that can inform you on how the roads currently are. i tested it out today, and it is pretty correct. the only thing to note is even if roads are mostly snow/ice free, less used ones like in neighborhoods will still be worse that heavily traveled ones like main streets or the interstate.
