‘You have nightmares?’

He couldn't quite label them that way. A nightmare was typically a frightening or unpleasant dream. For such an experience to occur, one must possess the ability to dream. What he experienced was different, more akin to a vague, unsettling sensation that surfaced when he slowly emerged from a drugged slumber. His mind was a relentless maelstrom of thoughts, a ceaseless torrent of activity. It was like a computer programmed without an off switch, ever whirring, never resting. ( The sedatives allowed him to enter a state of standby, not full shutdown, leaving him partially functional, hovering between awareness and oblivion. ) Designed uniquely, this was his nature. He had gradually come to terms with the distinct workings of his mind, embarking on a journey to understand himself. With time, he might reach a state of being that others said he could never achieve—a complete personhood. For now, however, he found solace in the present moment, embracing each day as it unfolded, focusing on healing and self-discovery.

What do they do when they’re away from each other?: Dorothy tends to send like book quotes and suggestions for Angel.  Angel sends her art and commentary on whatever book she let Dorothy talk her into reading.
