Surgery Journal
I woke up a little more sore today than yesterday, and woke up quite a few times through the early morning. I think because i wanted to roll onto my side but I can't so I had to just adjust on my back. The bandage is becoming itchy as hell, in places I can't reach! The fluid in my drains is gradually decreasing though so that's good. I've been moving around, walking around the house a lot. I thought I was going to be much more sedentary than I am, so I'm glad about that too. My mom wants me to do some walking outside the house, so I might go around the block with a friend that's coming over soon. My friends that live in the area have been so helpful, it's nice to have all this company and support. 😊 My post op appointment is on Tuesday morning, so I'm assuming that's when I'll have my drains removed and get the incisions redressed. Uhg I can't wait for Tuesday so I can see what I look like. I peeked under the bandage last night and could see the very middle of my chest where the stitches start, it was such a tease!!

I'm still pretty sleepy today. I've been intermittently watching a movie and taking short naps. I've gotten up a few times and walked around the kitchen, went to the bathroom etc. The pain is very tolerable, but not moving my arms around is challenging lol
Surgery Journal: Two days until surgery
I am still grappling with the idea that this is real. My life is about to change in two days and it’s so wild. Even though I’m keeping a calm composure, I am SO FREAKING EXCITED OH MY GOD. I want to just talk about the things I am excited about, and the things I’m nervous about here. I like to share bad news first to finish on a high note, so here’s what I’m worried about;
I don’t know if I’m completely prepared to have zero mobility, and not be able to do anything for myself. My girlfriend Tristan, will be my main care giver, but my parents will be here and a handful of friends want to come by to help and hang out while I’m chilling in bed. Tristan knows that she is going to be taking care of me, but I don’t want to tire her out. I am very afraid of pulling my scars so I need to glue my arms down, and I know that’s going to be hard. I’m worried about my mom too; she knows I’m having surgery and supports me, and she will be here to take care of me, but she’s asked me things like am I sure about it. I’m giving her the benefit of doubt and hoping she’s just worried about me having surgery in general, and not about the particular surgery. I want to talk to her today about it. Another thing, I hate sleeping on my back! I always sleep on my side or stomach, I don’t know how I’m going to do this sleeping on my back for 3 weeks thing uhhgg. I have to build a pillow barricade so I can’t roll lol. I think I’ve gotten my room as prepared for surgery as I can, I just hope I have everything I need.
Now for the exciting stuff! I literally can not wait to wear only one layer instead of four. I think wearing just a t-shirt in public for the first time is going to feel very strange, vulnerable even - because I would never do that now. I can’t wait to walk around the house topless! I do in my room now, but I live with a bunch of other people, so topless outside of my room is a no no. More than anywhere, I worry about how I present myself at the gym, so I can’t wait to just go in a t-shirt and do my workout and be done, instead of constantly worrying if my chest looks flat enough or if I have to go adjust myself. It really comes down to, I CAN’T WAIT TO BE COMFORTABLE. I want to be comfortable and confident in my body, and I know this is a huge step to reaching that.
That’s about all I have right now. I got my confirmation call from the hospital yesterday, I’m all set. Surgery is at noon on Monday!

The journal aims to promote publications from surgery faculty members who are otherwise unable to access other journals. Most importantly, those from countries or regions that have few resources to provide surgical care now have a forum to publish their approaches, research, and dilemmas in patient management -- specifically within surgical fields -- through clinical care, research, and education.
