I started my surgery rotation as an intern and eventho I have good knowledge of teorical end of things I feel like I am lacking the knowledge for assisting the operator when scrubbed in with them. I know it kind of requires experince and time but I'd also like to read up how to assist the operator as the surgical assistant but I couldn't find any books etc. for veterinary surgery. Maybe I was using the wrong words @ google cuz my mother tongue is not english? idk. Any help pls kind people
gettingvetted here.
I don't know that there are any books about veterinary assisting in surgery... most of the time, you just need to be present and available to help the surgeon with what they tell you specifically that they need. The best thing to do to prepare for surgeries is to study the surgical procedure beforehand, be aware of the anatomy involved, complications, anesthesia considerations, etc. If there's a bleeder, hold it off for them while they repair it. Be ready with gauze, clamps, and suture scissors for them. And have fun! Assisting in someone else's surgery is way more fun (in my opinion) than doing your own. Although, I'm not a surgical intern ;)
