On Sunday, I participated in one of my fave events of the year right in the warm sand of my beloved Ocean Beach. It started with a beach clean-up hosted by the Surfrider Foundation. Man, nothing is better than beautifying your beach while checking out surfers, listening to the ocean and enjoying your friend’s latest gossip. In SF, there are OB clean-ups the first and third Sunday of every month starting at stairwell 17 in front of the Beach Chalet. There is also a regular Baker Beach clean-up the last Saturday of the month. All are from 10am – noon. http://sf.surfrider.org/
Those who participated this past Sunday were given a discount to go to Silent Frisco. What is Silent Frisco, you say? Let me explain because this event ROCKS. It’s basically a dance party in the sand with 2 DJs spinning simultaneously live. Everyone wears headphones, and you can toggle back and forth between which of them you want to listen to. When people asked me which channel I was listening to, I answered them by busting out some sick, exaggerated moves in rhythm with the music. Yeah, that answers that.
DJs are in the background
There is definitely a Burning Man vibe out there…no one judges your dance moves and you feel like you can crash anyone’s picnic blanket party without getting the stink eye. If you want to play frisbee with that group over there, well you just run your little patoots on over there and wave your arms so they throw you the next one.
There are Silent Friscos all over the country! There is an event in Chicago this weekend and a couple in NYC in late June. Check out http://www.silentfrisco.com/ for more info
