Have you ever walked outside and went to the store with your mom and been stared at when your the only colored person in the proximity? Have you ever wondered why all these conflicts because the color of our skin seems to still be a problem? I grew up in an almost white community and was picked on because of the way I looked, and everyday I hated to look in the mirror and feel those words tear at my being. Why should it matter what my skin looks like? Why should it matter if I’m black, white, Asian, Mexican, Native American, or any other color or ethnicity? I’ve never once looked at anybody and thought... I am better than that person because their skin tone differs from mine. I’ve never once thought that because someone is black they must not be smart or they must be part of a gang. I’ve never looked at someone who has white skin and thought oh they must be rich, they must think they’re better than me, they must be more privledged. I must admit though that I have looked at someone and wondered if they were alright, wondered if they need someone to talk to, wondered if they’re having a hard time in life, wondered if just maybe someone could use just a tiny bit of positivity. It’s hard for children to grow up in a world that continues to divide humans based on the outer color of their skin. I understand that black people are being discriminated against and that is why the #blacklivesmatter movement is going on, but shouldn’t we have a movement on #skincolordoesntmatter ? Or even #alllivesmatter ? We need to stop picking specific people to be helping and laying blame on one ethnicity or race. We need to come together and realize that everyone is unique and special not just because of the color of their skin, but because of who they are on the inside. Because #alllivesmatter and I stand by everybody in the world because I love everyone on this earth... and so should you.
