Hard to keep from being too bristled after the interview he’d had earlier, all uncomfortable and too-personal. He’d had security escort them out, and now here was Superboy, coming to give his own two cents no doubt.

12. on a scar & 23. in a moment of sadness

“ i don’t know WHY you let them treat you like this . ”

it’s been a long week : they’re both drained , both hurt , both just absolutely DONE . tim’s got that telltale tickle of an approaching cold in his throat , and conner -

conner has a fresh new HEAT VISION scar , skin warped and bubbled under tim’s fingers . one he could have been podded to get rid of , heal him good as new , but lex felt it taught a lesson , making conner heal normally , making him look at the CONSEQUENCES of getting hurt .

“ he has to know it’s you , ” tim continues . “ he has to . he’s got goddamn x-ray vision , he can’t NOT know you’re mock - up . and even if he doesn’t , fucking batman has to . ” nights like this , the sheer force of tim’s RAGE could kill superman .

“ and lex - ” he spits the name . they both know how he feels , how he can hardly muster the words . he hates him . “ what the fuck does this teach , exactly ? what does it prove ? you KNOW what went wrong already , you knew the moment you got hurt , you don’t need - THIS . ”

“ you know i HATE these . ”

lexcorp events . tim hated them when he’d first met conner , working as his HANDLER so he didn’t commit some catastrophic gaffe , and he hates them even more now that he accompanies conner as his friend instead of getting paid for it . he tugs at his cuffs irritably . “ and you know LEX hates when you bring me , ” he points out , not that either of them care what lex likes or dislikes , but it’s the principle of the thing .

it’s been a long day - a long week , really , watching a mark , adjusting and readjusting the plan every time the asshole decided to deviate , to up security , to generally do his damnedest to make tim’s life and his job hell -

but now tim’s done . the man is dead , tim’s been paid , and he has conner to curl up with , clinging to him on the couch and tracing idle patterns on his arm as the tv plays softly in the background . whatever is on , tim stopped paying attention about four commercial breaks ago , more focused on the warmth of conner pressed against him , the slight striping of fading stretch marks on his tawny skin from his last podding and the growth spurt that went with it . tim doesn’t comment on those , just knows to be patient as conner adjusts to new inches of height and pounds of muscle until he settles into himself again .

he finds the patterns of his fingers changing , aimless loops and circles cementing into something he recognizes , characters , and tim has to pause , staring at conner’s arm for a long moment before he finally says something , softly .
