The grass was cold and possibly wet against your back but the warmth from Marks hand made up for it. It wasn't often you two got time together just the two of you, away from everyone and everything. So when Mark suggested that you guys sneak out of the hotel where the rest of NCT was staying to go for a walk you were more than happy to come along. You both giggled like crazy when you almost got caught by Johnny. It felt like you two were teenagers again. But here you were, laying down on the grass of some playground, hand in hand, watching the stars as clouds pass by.
You should be talking with him, you know time is limited but you're unsure of what to say. He's been away for so long that you thought words would be able to just come to you, telling him about everything he's missed out in Vancouver. He has been gone for so many years so when you heard he was staying for a while thanks to this being one of his tour stops you insisted on hanging out. Of course leaving time for his family but he still wanted to catch up with his friend. Best friend. That’s all you were. Kinda.
“You know in another life I would have married you” This was the first thing the two of you had spoken for a long time, so it surprised you that that’s what he decided to say. You turn to look at him but he continues to stare at the sky above.
“I know” Your words sound sad and tired and that’s how it made you feel. “I wish things were different”
You sigh and turn back to the night, missing his eyes as he finally looks at you. Maybe its easier not being able to see each other.
“Me too but this life is important to me” When you were younger you were undeniably in love with Mark and he was very much in love with you. You two had shared a lot of things together, kisses, cuddles, and more. But he would never allow things to become official. He was determined to become an idol, to have a career in music and he knew having a girlfriend could hurt his image. He wasn’t wrong but it hurt.
“I know Mark” You desperately wanted to be with him, to be by his side. So you waited for him. Turning down other people in your life in the hopes that maybe one day, he would change his mind and finally settle with you. “It's okay”
Even though you knew in your heart it wasn't ok for you to hold onto him for any longer. You would wait another lifetime if it meant you could finally have him.
