#super school

What if that were the premise of a story? The main character is applying to some variety of super school, and goes through all the usual motions, but they don't get in.

Maybe the asshole dean who has it out for them from the word go gets their way for once. Maybe they just don't do well enough on the entrance exam, or are too poor to afford it. Maybe this time Professor Oak doesn't have a random critter for the kid who slept in. Doesn't matter.

The rest of the story is the MC trying their best to do things without the school, exploring their powers and whatnot, finding tutors impressed enough by their gumption to work pro bono, maybe they go vigilante, maybe they run away in shame and turn out to be a horse whisperer, whatever.

But in the background, the MC is hearing news and rumors that something is going down at the school. Villain attacks, record-breaking poor grades traced back to a jerkass teacher, unprecedented dropouts because there was no one there to provide random rousing speeches of "we CAN do this!"

“I almost died!”

“Classes here are so cool! I mean, who doesn’t want to go to Bomb Disposal 101?”“Me.”“Me too.”“And me.”“But how can you not be excited?! This is a superhero school, run by superheroes to train new superheroes, with superhero classes and-”“It’s just not that cool when you’re here every day. Now come on, we’ve got Basic Biomechanics next, and you do not want to arrive late. The Professor will probably make you their next test subject.”

“I almost died!”“It’s an extreme sport at a school full of superheroes. What else were you expecting?”

“I don’t want to be trapped in a stupid school with a bunch of goody-two-shoes babies and has-been heroes for teachers!” The budding young supervillain crossed their arms. “No way. I’d rather go to jail with you.”Their mentor merely lifted an eyebrow. “Well we wouldn’t be at the same prison anyway, considering you’d be at juvie-”“I can easily break out of juvie-”“Not where they’d be sending you, I can guarantee that. Besides,” a smile slipped across the mentor’s face, something that promised mischief and a plot, “you can break out of the school instead. What?” They grinned wider at their sidekick’s confused expression. “I said you had to go to the stupid hero school; I never said you had to stay there.”

Another Powered People AU (basically like a part 2 to my Super School one)

A and B are part of a team of Powered People that protect the city and A finds out that the council that regulates the team is corrupt in some way -taking money from villains, ignoring real issues, taking advantage of their positions, whatever-

B doesn’t believe it/refuses to saying that whatever evidence is presented must be faked because they want to believe they are a part of something good

A and B break up (or just stop talking depending on where they are in their friend/relationship)

The council fires A (or they leave the team) and A becomes a Deadpool-esqe assassin under a new name (no one makes the connection from the hero to the assassin) and everything is going fine

Until A receives a contract offer to kill B

A has 24 hours to answer whether or not they will take the contract so they visit B (not at the team HQ cos they’re not allowed so maybe at home or civilian job) and tell B about it

A tried to trace the encrypted IP/email/video feed and couldn’t, they propose to work together with B behind the scenes while making it look like assassination attempts, B is so angry about A’s new job that they decline

A has no choice but to decline the contact, they can’t kill their friend, they just can’t

The team breaks into A’s new hideout to arrest them (under the council’s orders) and A sets off the self destruct/hard drive wipe) and escapes but the council releases their identity to the city, so they run

Cut to living in other cities around the world, Paris, Tokyo, London, Hong Kong (wherever you want, basically big city) and everything goes fine for a while in each city until another hero or villain recognizes them and they run

In (city), B and someone from the team have found A and is about to arrest them when villain/assassin busts in to kill B [I used Tokyo as the last city, and a villain I named Ghoul recognized A as the hero they once were]

Everyone is thrown around and it looks like B will be killed (oh no!) and A breaks free of whatever bonds and attacks the villain, either killing or severely injuring them [my villain had regenerative powers for healing]

Local gang [I used Yakuza] comes bc villain works for them, A tells B to get out while they distract the gang [basically, “I’ll take care of them, get yourselves out of here.” “Don’t kill anyone.” “Really? Scum of the earth and I can’t kill them?” “A!” “Fine.”]

A renews their efforts to track and find the client with the contract and finds out that its B’s villain dad

A gives B all the information but Villain Dad shows up to fight cos he will not be arrested for shit

A pushes B to get the info to a safe place and they will take on B’s dad

Big Fight™

A is getting their ass kicked, only getting in a couple good shots

B comes back after securing the info and fights with A against Villain Dad

Big finale where Villain Dad goes to prison and the council is disbanded cos A also got hard evidence of the corruption, A is cleared of any charges and reinstated (if that’s what you want)
