TSH: How much of your musical creativity being so seamless do you attribute to growing up together?

Tyler: That's definitely a huge part of the development of our band. Through the years we've gone to high school together and in time we've developed a trust in each other to make our sounds mature as a collective band. I also feel that we've achieved our distinct sound because we have three different and unique songwriters in the band, which leads to an interesting and very pleasing process overall.

TSH: Did working very quickly for 'Moonlight Anthems' help the band to excel?

Tyler: Yeah, I'd say it did. We sort of set out a plan of exactly what we wanted to do for this record, and to then really attack the plan full-on was a good way to achieve positive results, for sure.

TSH: Does it benefit you guys a lot to have a pool of individual influences and different angles to pull from?

Tyler: Yeah, we all chip in, in different ways. It's really cool to see the different influences of each band member. Whatever each member is listening to or generally feeling will come out in an individual way to help the band feel content with songwriting.

TSH: You've been playing some of these new songs on the road for a year, how did this help you to capture the live energy in the studio?

Tyler: It gave us direction mainly. We've always been quite proud of our live show and we always enjoy playing live music for crowds, so to capture the energy in the studio felt natural. It's was very important to us, which is why we decided to all track in the same room and have more of a live setting, instead of doing it separate with an overdub style.

TSH: Also, Michael has mentioned this collection of songs is for people who don't like mayonnaise on their sandwiches...

Tyler: Haha! Yeah, that's a nice way to describe em! For me, I feel the record is a good collection of songs that you need to turn up and play loud.

TSH: What's pleased you most about your way of working for this record?

Tyler: It's just nice that it came together without too much stress. I also like the way that we scheduled it to allow us to have more time to go back after we finished the skeletons of the individual tracks. We got to go back and add our own little taste of what we felt was needed to make each song more refined.

TSH: What was the process like in bringing together 'We Are Doing Fine'?

Tyler: It was quite organic actually. When Harry presented it to us in the rehearsal studio, it definitely instantly caught our ears with the cool bassline. It basically woke us up and shook us, we were that impressed and it was a cool song to work on.

TSH: 'Over and Over' entails more of an optimistic message...

Tyler: Yeah, that track has like an all together type of vibe. I guess its best summed up as a friends ballad. Friends bonding and trusting one another.

TSH: What defines the band's live shows?

Tyler: When we play live, we all push ourselves to be as good as we are on record. We're very present and focussed when we hit the stage. We also want to feel it, you know? To get up there and play and engage with audiences whilst bringing our own tastes to the mix is very rewarding.

TSH: What does it mean to you to be so immersed within music?

Tyler: It's total escapism for me. Being onstage or creating in the rehearsal space or studio definitely helps me to forget about the madness in the outside world. The real world can be quite heavy, so it's nice to have harmony via music with guys that I consider to be my brothers.

TSH: Do non-musical aspects inform your musical outlooks much?

Tyler: For sure. I mean we each look to our surroundings to influence us. The live shows of others also inspire us too, as well as plays and opera. We just bring a pool of influences to the table to develop a complete picture for a song from its initial skeleton.

TSH: Does being out in nature keep you relaxed outside of music?

Tyler: Oh, for sure. I like to go out into nature to keep my state of mind clear and not too clogged up. We have a lot of water near where we live, we're located by the Elizabeth River, which is where I like to chill and kick back.

TSH: What brings about most laughter when you guys are on tour?

Tyler: We just love making fun of each other man. We always rat on each other and rib one another - it's a constant laugh. At the end of the day, we're friends again no matter what happens. That's the cool thing with us; nobody will stay mad at each other for too long.

TSH: What do you hope achieve with the band's ventures as you look ahead?

Tyler: I would love for our music to be exposed to more listeners really. We're always looking to expand and allow new people to hear our music. Music is a huge passion for us and we love all aspects of it, so it would be nice to just connect with more listeners. All it takes is for one more person to hear us and it'll make us happier - every listener is important to us. I guess we're all just hoping to land that mass appeal.
