I also took a.spin at Narajin the Lion God and Supayra the last Destroyer from @raffleupagus s Daikaiju Yuki series. These two are my favorite hero and baddie monsters respectively, but i need to give the rest of the pantheon a whirl sometime.
I’ve been meaning to draw the Pantheon Colossi from @raffleupagus‘s Daikaiju Yuki series for a while now (more specifically, I meant to do so in early October, but time makes fools of us all), and well, better late than never! Even threw in Supayra and Piranhagon for funsies!
So why frog?
I needed a villain and I knew that he had to be a South American animal. A poison dart frog is, despite its appearance and size, deadly and dangerous.
Then I got to thinking about how his demeanor is reminiscent of internet trolls and the Alt-Right, especially the way he spouts his rhetoric, and fascist Pepe memes immediately came to mind.
Now I’m not saying that you have to read “Supayra represents the Alt-Right” into the book, because this is a fantasy and I don’t want to kill your fun by making you think about real life but… look at some of the things he says, and the way he says them…
On a purely surface level, frogs are cool and underused giant monsters, poison dart frogs are dangerous, I wanted him to be kind of funny and “giant evil frog” is kind of inherently funny, and all of those things fit the bill.
