Furry-tongued Pawn- Mollusca-esque creatures supporting multiple valves. They live along the rocky shorelines in the South Pole. Pawns attach themselves onto cliff faces when waves crash into them and remain there for their entire lives. They’re hermaphrodites and reproduce sexually with their neighbors.
Furry-tongued Pawns have a symbiotic relationship with a halophilic (salt-loving) bacteria. They open three valves through out the day to collect salty sea spray.
Bacteria live on the Pawn’s bristled foot and gills. They collect salt water on their foot and gills before retreating inside themselves to avoid dehydrating and predation. The gills come from only one opening at a time. They usually open on the side that can protect the gills from chilling winds.
Marquess Worm - A velvet worm-like animal. Females are larger than males. They live along the coasts and rocky bluffs of the South Pole. They mostly feed on smaller prey items. However Female Marquess Worms use Pawns as hosts for their eggs. They’ll crawl into the Pawn and lay a clutch of eggs before leaving. The young precede to hatch and eat the Pawn inside out.
