sunny and kel are besties because they get in the same moods. because they get drunk and kel says “bro we should go get mcdonald’s” and then the doorbell rings and sunny’s like “i ordered it after the first shot” and kel’s like “bro.” they’re besties because kel just goes “i’m feeling hobeez today dude” and sunny’s like “hobeez is so lame. lemme get my jacket.” they’re besties because sunny just Calls Him and kel just Answers and the first thing kel says is “dude this chick at work got hornet spray and asked if it was safe to apply directly to skin” and sunny is like “did you kill her, or.” they’re besties because they don’t even miss a beat. they’re besties because “they finish each other’s-” “sandwiches.” they’re besties because they know nothing and everything about each other. they’re besties because they both Get It, and even if they don’t really talk to each other about their emotions, or the things that are eating at the corners of their brains, or the question that’s floating in their head and won’t go away, sometimes it’s better to just go “do you think that seagulls feel love?” and to get the answer “that’s so deep, dude. totally.” while they wipe away a fake tear. they’re besties because, even when they don’t just Automatically Know what’s wrong, they don’t ask, they just talk and distract and be there and maybe they aren’t doing a good enough job and maybe they need to talk about their emotions and maybe they need therapy and maybe it’s stupid and it’s silly and it’s ridiculous and it’s not really helpful but y’know what, fuck you, i don’t want to talk about what’s wrong. i want to get stoned and watch every clifford movie. because sometimes i just don’t want to talk about it for a little while, sometimes it’s waited for years and it can wait another weekend while we both think about nothing but how is your mario party luck so good, seriously dude what the fuck, this is so unfair.
