bin taesoo was not used to waiting for anyone.

he had always been someone to get what he wanted when he wanted it, or move on to the next person if someone was playing hard to get. after all, he often had more than enough people just waiting for an opportunity — so why should he waste time chasing after someone? he had more important things to do.

however, things were different when it came to harper yi. how long had it been since taesoo had met them? a few months at this point, perhaps. at first they would only see each other on occasion, but then taesoo had grew more insistent, more present in their life. of course that didn't mean harper wouldn't continue to run away from him for awhile still, but he was being patient. it would be worth it in the end, he knew it. taesoo couldn't really explain why he felt such a way about someone he hardly knew, but he wasn't one to question his instincts — and, this time, they were telling that this was his person.

so, he had been taking it slow. sort of.

just because he was taking it slow, didn't mean he had to be casual about it. taesoo didn't bother to hide or tone down his interest, making it clear from the beginning exactly what it was that he wanted. perhaps that was part of the reason harper felt such an urge to flight, but that was something non-negotiable. he would not feign nonchalance or play hard to get, knowing that wouldn't take him where he wanted to go. instead, taesoo continued to double down on his behavior, waiting for the day that harper would finally just... accept it.

bin taesoo had always great paid attention to things, but even more so when it came to harper. since the very first day, he had been observing and watching the other, trying to understand more of who they were as a person and what made them tick. the more he learned about him, the more in love taesoo fell. fast and hard, that was one way of describing how it had all happened.

he saw the brightness and gentleness he had, the way he was so kind that he would do anything for the people he cared about. however, taesoo also saw the way he seemed to change for others too, as if catering to their needs and expectations of what he should be instead of simply being himself. it was a feeling taesoo couldn't relate to personally — but more than that, it was something he hated seeing, because he knew harper deserved better than that & deserved to be appreciated and loved for who he was.

so, from the start, taesoo had never wanted anything less but everything that harper could be. he had always encouraged him to be true to himself, always tried to truly see him. upon hearing such words, taesoo couldn't help smiling softly, a hand reaching out to cup his lover's cheek as if they were the most precious thing in the world. " good, that's what i want you to be. the real you is what i fell in love with, and i don't ever want you to hide that. " he hummed as he spoke those words, gaze moving along harper's features as he took in every little detail about them.

" what if you hurt me? " taesoo was amused by that question, a little smile appearing on his lips as he looked at harper.

oh, sweet harper. he had always been so gentle and sweet, so deserving of all the love and affection in the world.

he was the opposite of taesoo, with his sharp edges and craving for anything that could push past the numbness he often felt. he used to think that there was nothing that could ever hurt him — not in a meaningful way, or in any way that would actually leave a mark.

however, upon being asked that, taesoo made an important realization. he knew that harper was talking about a physical sense, but he took it further. a hand reached out to very gently caress the other's face, a gentle smile appearing on his lips as he hummed in response.

" if there's anyone that could ever truly hurt me, it's you. " because you have my heart in a way no one else has. despite his words, taesoo sounded very at peace with such a realization, as if he knew that this was just how things were meant to be. however, he was not yet done speaking, fingers still tracing every little feature on their face with a calmness that said he wasn't going anywhere.

when taesoo had fallen into this line of business, he never thought he would have someone to care about other than taeran. even though he had gotten involved with people here and there over the years, it had never been serious — both because he didn't care for them that way and because he didn't want to pull anyone else into this world. after all, if he were to do so, that meant he would have to take responsability, and he had enough of that as it was.

harper, however, was different.

somehow, he wormed his way into taesoo's heart despite all the reasons he had to push them away. he had known since the start that being with taesoo meant danger, and yet he didn't let that scare him away — and perhaps there was a part of this criminal that felt a little touched and intrigued by such a determination.

taesoo now found himself in a position he thought he never would be — caring for others and caring for himself, so that he would be able to come home in one piece to the person that mattered the most.

harper knew better than to ask where he was going or what he was going to do when taesoo started to pick up a few certain things before leaving, but they didn't need to ask to know that, whatever it was, there was always a certain degree of danger.

did taesoo ever think that he would find himself settling down with someone and building a family of his own? if you were to ask him back when he was in his early twenties, he would say absolutely not. back then, he thought it would always just be him and taeran, no one else. they only needed each other, after all. however, as quickly as harper had occupied a space in taesoo's heart the moment he met them, those perceptions about his future also began to change. it caught taesoo by surprise, almost, how one day he could simply see himself having an entirely different life than the one he did before.

now swaying lightly in the middle of the room as he held their child close to his chest after she had woken up from her afternoon nap, taesoo felt more at peace than he ever had in his life. it was like this was exactly where he was supposed to be. he never imagined he would have paternal instincts or any desire to have a kid of his own, yet everything changed once again when he learned that they would be a family. now, there was one more person taesoo wouldn't hesitate to do anything for, no matter what — and that list would continue to grow as their family expanded too.

while he had been distracted watching the faces juniper was making, his attention turned back to harper the moment he heard his husband speak. the words brought a small smile to taesoo's lips, and he came closer while still holding their baby. " am i now? " he replied with a hum, voice playful and sounding a little too close to the babified version he used when talking to juniper, who was watching them both with clear curiosity in her eyes while babbling quietly, as if she was a part of the conversation.

finally harper had stopped running.

taesoo had always pushed things further and further every time they saw each other, seeing how far he could push before they thought it was too much. it was like testing the limits, seeing how long it would take for harper to crack under the tension that always lingered between them. if it was up to taesoo, they would have done this ages ago, but he didn't mind waiting. in fact, there was something quite satisfying but harper being the one to take the lead, to feel just how much they wanted him by the way their lips were pressed together so tightly. it was as if the defenses around harper had finally cracked, and everything came pouring out all together.

he liked that. he liked that a lot. the moment taesoo felt the other's lips on his and the way they were holding onto his shirt, he couldn't help returning the kiss with even more intensity than it could be seen on his gaze normally. he held harper by his waist, pulling him flush against his frame as head tilted to deepen the kiss, as if he wanted to devour him whole.
