“God, I hate this town.“

Aden Young: “In my joy of having the experience to have lived alongside Daniel for so many years, I would hope that people recognize . . . how valuable one human life is and what it means when that life is threatened. The echoes of that decision [to convict Daniel] and how traumatic and destructive that choice can be and that reality is. It is a fiction, but we have to be very careful to measure our fiction against the truth. If we don’t, we exploit real suffering and we exploit real trauma. That is not our intention.”

When asked what he hopes fans remember about “Rectify” when the series wraps in December, [Ray McKinnon] sums up his vastly thought-provoking series with impeccable clarity. “I think we live in a world where we tend to put people in boxes. We’re not looking at each other’s humanity enough. And ‘Rectify,’ hopefully, has allowed people to look at a group of small town people in a more complex way than they’re often portrayed.”

“In the solitude of death row, there is an internalization of imagination that happens. But now Daniel must face the possibility that maybe I wasn’t executed, maybe I did live. He’s probing this world, trying to figure out if he can trust it. Can the ghost survive re-entry into the material world?” -Aden Young

Ray McKinnon: “They had a shadow relationship. It was, “I’ll be your pretend mother and you’ll be my pretend son, and we won’t ruffle each other’s feathers.” That was their relationship. I don’t know if it will happen, but now they have an opportunity to go deeper than that. But first they had to get to this point of fracture.”
