VOX MACHINA IDEAS THAT I PROBABLY WON’T WRITE, LOG 26
Okay, so I got reminded of a post about The Vox Machina Untold Stories 1, about the story of the Sun Tree. I forgot that the giant tree is an actual sentient being that has thoughts and feelings and remembers how horrified it felt the night the Briarwoods came and massacred the de Rolo family. Here is the LINK to that post.
So it got me thinking in a variation of my VM ideas, log 24, about Percy dying and being forcefully resurrected, but this time, it was the Sun Tree who brought Percy back, but there is a “small” twist...
After a torture session and being left in the cell, Percy is at the edge of death from internal injuries that their torturers didn’t bother to check out. The Sun Tree, feeling that Percy is about to die, extends its roots to his cell and makes contact. Deciding that it's not going to let one of the last two de Rolos left to die, it shares its life force with the human. Thanks to this, Percy survives and is confused about how his hair turned white in one night. Then you know how the rest of the story goes.
But here comes the twist.
Years later, after the Briarwoods, Ripley, the Chroma Conclave, Vecna, and Vax leaving the mortal plane after his wedding with Percy, that left the human very depressed for months, Cassandra and the rest of VM start to notice something strange… Percy is barely aging at all, to the point that he and Cass could look like they are of the same age.
After some investigation, they discover that there is a connection between Percy and the Sun Tree. Keyleth talks to the tree, she confirms that there is a bond between them, but because the Sun Tree is such a massive magical being, Percy’s lifespan is attached to it. So, as long as the Sun Tree lives, Percy will live as well, making him kind of immortal, as long as nobody tries to kill him.
This is pretty shocking news for everybody. It takes Percy some time to process his new unwanted immortality, but he tries to focus on making things better for his home with his inventions and such.
It is hard to see how his friends slowly age while he is still the same, and on some dark nights, he thinks he could easily just take himself out if he gets tired of living, but then he remembers Keyleth and how they are in the same situation now, so at least they won't feel so lonely when the time comes for the rest of VM.
Then 30 years later, the Hells Bells appear in Whitestone and everything goes to shit hahaha but hey, look, Vax is in trouble, they have to save him. Then the Matron let him go back with his family and husband, now for real for real, and he is also immortal, soooo everything should be fine and they should live happily ever after… after some years of therapy for everybody, right?...
I don’t know, I went a little rambly at the end there. I just liked the idea of immortal bird husbands haha
