Hello bookish friends, can you believe its almost the end of #PrideMonth!? Where did June go!? But that doesn't mean reading books with LGBTQIA+ themes has to stop - you can read them all year long - and I plan to continue reading more! So many I didn't get to this month. Q: What's your favorite book with ace or demisexual rep in it? These are a few of my recs. I've only recently started reading books that fall under the ace umbrella - asexual or aromatic. And I'm still learning. #LetsTalkAboutLove was one of the first I remember reading with asexual rep in it and it is FANTASTIC. I recommend this one SO much! The MC Alice is asexual & I feel she explained asexuality so well. All of her feelings felt so real, I could really see what she was going through. Alice is 19 and the guy she has a crush on, Takumi, is 21, so this is set in college and to me, that made it feel all the more realistic. I would recommend starting with this one for asexuality if you are unsure where to start. Vanilla is told in verse, and it's emotionally raw. It's told in three perspectives. We have Vanilla, figuring out that he is asexual - he has been with Hunter since middle school and Hunter is finally ready to have sex - but Vanilla doesn't want it and he isn't sure why. The word asexual is never even said until the last quarter of the book. We have Hunter. And we have a third character who comes out as non-binary. This book took me by surprise and I really enjoyed it. I still have to read Beyond The Black Door, but its a fantasy book!! with!! ace/biromantic rep and #ownvoices!!! #BeyondTheBlackDoor And I really need to read this one soon. I’m almost finished with this book. I’m enjoying it but it does deal with a lot of heavy issues that grief and anxiety. Still a great read tho. 5 pages into #summerbirdblue by @akemidawnbowman and I'm in tears. This book is so painful and beautiful with well crafted prose that hits you right in the gut. And I love that I can actually imagine all the places mentioned because I live in Hawaii! Akemi nailed the pidgen, which isn't easy to do, while remaining respectful to the Hawaiian culture.
