Sujan was the last man standing in the tunnels escape attempt. Eventually, even with their supply of water, they inhaled enough fog it was effecting everyone’s sanity and anger and paranoia. One gave up and left and was immediately snatched by a killer. The rest stayed after they saw him die, and tied to make it, but eventually one of them had a breakdown and went out of their head and tried to kill the others and they had to kill their friend. Most of them died in that fight because it was the biggest and strongest member who broke down, when he never would have wanted to do that. He realized partway through what he’d done and snapped out of it and begged them to kill him before he lost control again and one of the three left did. Shortly after, one of the three succumbed to her wounds and the last two, Sassy and Sujan, gave up and left together. Sassy was so despairing after killing a close friend and watching him kill other friends, that she hung herself. Suicide isn’t effective, but she gave up hope entirely and was taken to the void, and all Sujan knew was that he was alone and she’d hung herself and everyone was dead.
The Entity had left killers to watch for them when they gave up and came out, and because it’s cruel, it had given Philip that job. Sujan ran into him and was horrified and overcome, because the last time he’d seen Philip he had been killed by the Entity to buy them time, and he had no idea the Entity resets Philip or how it handles injuries. All he knew was that the person he thought was his friend and had mourned was alive and his plan had killed everyone. The dream Philip has in Oak is really a fragment from that last meeting with Sujan. Sujan approached him in dispair and asked him if he’d known the whole time. If it had been a setup and he’d planned this and lied to them from the start. And then just gave up and started crying and fell on his knees and told him it didn’t matter and he begged Philip to show him how to hope again, like he had Sassy the day this had all started, because he was afraid if he didn’t he wasn’t going to be able to go on. He told him there was still a girl out there somewhere he cared about and didn’t want to leave alone and described Laurie and told him that if he could show him how to find her, he would be able to make it. Begged him to take him to her because he was afraid if he didn’t he was going to give up too and be gone, like Sassy, and she would never even know what happened, but he couldn’t go on. And Philip had no memory of any of this and was disturbed and confused, and he didn’t attack him, but he didn’t say anything, and Sujan asked him if he would at least tell her he was sorry, and got no answer, and gave up in despair and passed to the void too. Philip had no memory of anything but was horrified and had never actually seen someone be voided before, and he tried to stop it and couldn’t, and he was so distraught he confronted the Entity immediately after. It confirmed that Sujan had been telling him the truth and then killed and reset him.
