Sapporo Suitengū
I went up to Hokkaido for their annual Snow Festival, and decided to visit as many shrines as I could while I was up there! Of course I'll be sharing photos from the festival as well with the sculptures!
Suitengū typically enshrine: Ame no Minakanushi no Kami, Antoku Tennō, Kenreimon-in (the daughter of Taira no Kiyomori and consort to Emperor Takakura), and Nii no Ama (the grandmother of Emperor Antoku). Suiten-Sama along with being the generic name for any broadly worshiped water Kami, is also associated with the Hindu deity Varuna. After the forced separation of Buddhism and Shinto, many Suitengū identified their primary Kami as Ame no Minakanushi no Kami. [x] [x]
It was a very peaceful area to wander around, I even came across an area that was set aside for the snow festival! Lots of cute sculptures, and I even got to see how they make the sculptures themselves!
