That Look In Your Eye Is So Familiar || Sugmony

Sugar was so glad to have Harmony in the city.
Harmony was seriously glad to be visiting Sugar that weekend. It had been way too long since she had last seen the girl in person, and though they had kept in touch and had gotten much closer over they years, nothing really compared to being with her in person. Plus… Harmony had quite a few things to fill her dear friend in on, from the current break in her long distance relationship to her fears about not getting cast in anything and having gotten a possibly useless degree, and nothing beat being able to not have to do that over the phone. Harmony had arrived earlier that day after quite the annoying plane ride (she’d never had a ride with more crying children before), and had settled in a bit at the current Motta residence, but was more than ready to just sit back, relax, and talk with her friend about anything and everything that came to mind. “Hey there,” Harmony said as she left the guest bedroom, spotting Sugar immediately. “So, I think it’s about time that I got to hear what’s going on in that crazy life of yours, don’t you think?” she asked as she headed over to the couch in the living room, giving the girl the option of joining her… or not. She was pretty sure she’d join her though…
Harmony had caught Sugar off guard as she fiddled with the dial of the rather large stereo that resided underneath her big screen television in the living room. She didn't use it much, much easier turning on the television and hooking up music through the XBOX that Blake had brought over for his sheer enjoyment. She'd just turned it on something alternative, or at least she'd thought, until a bunch of screaming resumed. "Oh shi-eh..come on you stupid..bitch thing.." Sugar had managed to turn it up as loud as it would go for a total of five seconds, the loudest five seconds of her existence, until eventually just shutting it off all together. Standing up off her knees, she was just reaching for the small glass of wine she'd poured for herself when she heard the familiar voice peeking into the living room. A smile and Sugar was turning towards Harmony, nodding in quick agreement to what she was asking of her. Letting things off her chest, she'd found, was easier to do with Harmony than it was with most people. She was one of the few people she knew that weren't quick to judge, no matter the situation, and she'd always liked that about her. Now with their friendship stronger than it'd ever been, Sugar was more than ready to unleash whatever it was floating in her mind while she had the chance to with Harmony in town. "Me?! Wait, what about you? Come on, spill it. I want to know everything. I know something's going on. My Sugar senses are tingling BIG time."
Harmony grinned as Sugar agreed to one of their catch-up-sessions, curling her legs beneath her as she made herself comfortable for their chat. And of course Harmony was going first. Best to get everything out early and all that. "Your Sugar senses have always been so perceptive," Harmony began with a shake of her head, pursing her lips for a moment as she tried to decide where to begin. "So, everything. Okay, well, my life is just... pretty crazy at the moment. I feel like everything is constantly changing around me and there's verrrry little stability," she started with a bit of a frown, looking over at the girl as she continued. "I still haven't booked a show and I graduated from NYADA in December, I don't work too many hours at the dance studio so I don't earn much, and that job was given to me as a favor anyway, like my professor knew I'd gotten a useless degree and was going to start me on a road that was slightly more stable, but only start me on it. I've been auditioning for everything, but the callbacks are scarce and when I do get a callback, nothing comes out of it. I have a major audition this week that I'm kinda freaking out about too. Austin and I are on a break because I apparently suck at communication in long distance relationships, but he said we'd talk again in a couple of days and see where we stand and... yeah. Love and a career are two things that Harmony has not been having the best of luck with lately," she finished, taking a deep breath a moment later. She felt much better now that she had said everything out loud, though. "And how's the life of Sugar Motta?"
Just as Harmony was beginning, Sugar was quick to hop onto the opposing end of her long couch. Curling her knees to her chest, Sugar rested the wine glass in her lap and let her finger caress around the edges as she took in everything Harmony had to say. Mimicking the frown Harmony carried at first, it genuinely slipped away as she listened on. However, Sugar's eyebrows were sky-rocketed to the ceiling as the catchup seemed to roll into a nervous rant and, instantly, Sugar found herself scooting a bit closer to Harmony to show some compassion. She waited until she was finished speaking, however, before daring to make any sort of a sound. As she always did, Harmony managed to shift the conversation to Sugar before she got the proper chance to commentate what she had to say about the current happenings in Harmony's life. That's usually how it went. They caught the other up before they examined it all and, by the way it was sounding, they were going to be examining Harmony's life a bit on the lengthier side that evening. Not that she minded in the slightest. Sugar was happy to help and, though the routine of expressing her worries wasn't something she was used to, she knew it was something that had to be done to keep herself calm and from letting what happened back in high school happen again. Losing the ability to bare child and losing Rory were two things too much in her lifetime and if it could be avoided, it sure as hell would be. "The life of Sugar Motta is...busy. Very very busy but very very hopeful." Sugar's cheeks brightened at the word as she twirled the wine around her glass for a moment before speaking again. "I never would have expected ME, Sugar Motta, to one be a model. Sure, joking in high school about how I COULD be a model was one thing, but actually being one? It's crazy. People recognize you A LOT for it, a lot more than you'd realize and it's just weird. It's just weird. I’m really crossing my fingers things starting coming through as far as television goes but..it’s still a work in progress. And being a mom?! Like whoa! Holy crap! I think Principal Figgins would legit roll over in his non existent grave right about now." Taking a light sip from the glass, Sugar sat up straightened a bit more to straighten the top of her shirt. “Madeline and I just work together though. We just do. As far as four year olds go, she takes the cake at being one of the best ones. Even her teachers say so. I try to be open with her about Jay and her actual mom,” Sugar motioned to a picture frame placed on the end table beside the couch, holding a picture of Jay and Alisha. “ But I’ve just been thinking a lot lately about her..resenting me, for some reason one day. I know that sounds crazy but..Anyways. And Blake? He’s just Blake and don’t give me those eyes just yet. Nothing is going on. We still have Taco Tuesdays, where let me just say he puts Santana’s family in the running for best tacos, and Maddie loves him. I love him but it’s just..I don’t know what it is. I think I’m just unhinged as far as ‘love’ and ‘actually being with someone’ goes. I think I forgot how to do it.” With a large huff, Sugar exhaled before leaning her head against the edge of the couch. “And you, Miss New York Broadway Star. You’re going to book a show. You just are. Even putting Rachel Berry into the category, you have the most drive of anyone I’ve ever met! How many shows have you been in since living in New York?! Amazing amazing ammounts. You got this. Don’t even hesitate on that for a second..but Austin? Since when doesn’t the long distance relationship thing work with you guys? I thought it was going okay?”
Harmony was thankful that Sugar didn't comment on anything going on in her life just quite yet, nodding as the girl went into her catchup. Harmony had known Sugar was busy, but hadn't really known to what extent... well, now she knew. Between being a model and mother AND the work in progress with television, she seemed to be a million times more busy than Harmony. She smiled at the girl at the mention of things being hopeful, glad to hear it, before she listened intently to Sugar talk about how crazy the whole model experience was. Harmony had no clue that people actually recognized models... beyond the ones like Heidi Klum, but that was super cool! Harmony was really glad that modeling was working out for her friend. And that being a mom was too.
Harmony tried, really really tried, not to smirk at the mention of Blake, but was instantly aware that she had failed as Sugar pointed out to her that her eyes had deceived her. Honestly, the girl was super curious as to the whole Blake Mercy relationship, because he seemed really great and really into Sugar. At least from what Harmony had heard. It made Harmony a little sad to hear that Sugar was disillusioned with love, but she understood where the girl was coming from with that. She had been through a lot. It was understandable... still, Harmony hoped in the back of her mind that someday Sugar would fall in love and be incredibly happy. Not that you needed to be in love to be happy of course, but... being in love and being with someone was nice. Until it wasn't, but that was another thing altogether.
"She's never going to resent you, Sugar. Not even in those rebellious teen years where kids resent everything. I'm sure of it," Harmony reassured her friend with a shake of her head as soon as Sugar had paused in her speaking, adding onto her words a moment later. "I mean, she loves you so much, and I think that it's really great that you're so open with her about that stuff. In all of the stories I've heard where there is resentment, there's just been a lot of secrets in the family," the girl explained, smiling a little when Sugar reassured her about the things she was nervous about. "I know I'm going to book something eventually... it's just been a while and I'm a tad nervous. I always thought that as soon as I was out of college I'd be working my way up or starring on Broadway already, getting ready to be nominated for a Tony. I kinda just forgot about how the real world works, I guess. I always knew theatre was an unstable profession, I just never thought I'd be seeing the unstable side. Luckily I've got that Gerber money from my childhood so I'm not in a terrible panic over finances yet, but... I dunno. Not being in a show is boring. I feel unproductive, even though I am working part-time at the dance studio. I'm just going to keep on auditioning until I get something though, and hopefully that will be soon. There's something coming up soon that I'm really excited about. I won't say anything yet because I don't want to jinx anything, but yeah... it's not for a big part at all, but the show's great. I'm going to focus all of my energy onto that audition once I'm back in the city. You'll definitely be one of the first to know when I book something," Harmony said, looking over at the girl. "And Austin... I don't know. I thought I'd be better at communication when he was away, but as it turns out I'm just terrible at it. We don't talk much, and so I guess we're just taking a break to reevaluate things and figure out if we really do want to be together or if us not communicating is a sign."
"Oh.." Sugar's eyes fluttered when Harmony began to speak about Austin. A break was never good, Sugar had known that but wouldn't dare speak it aloud and freak out Harmony. Instead, Sugar did her best to reassure her with a smile. Harmony was technical single again and yet, as always, she seemed to carry herself enough for any man who dared to try to do it for her. Harmony always seemed more than confident, maybe a big reason why so many people seemed to magnetize themselves to her and her electrifying presence. It was one of the many reasons why she terrified her so much when Sugar first met her..she was, without a doubt, hard to compete with.
Where the curious want had fluttered into her mind, Sugar wasn't completely sure. It was the reminscing and staring at Harmony's face that had a spark strike up in Sugar that had her smile growing. 'Unhinged with love' was what she'd just spoke aloud to Harmony, in regards to herself, and she did believe herself to be in that case. She seemed succesful with a lot over the years, but that was still something that stayed far on the back burner. Fascination, lust, or even curiousity was something that Sugar hadn't been able to switch on in awhile and yet, for some reason while staring and listening to Harmony's story, something had flipped the switch on inside her. It wouldn't be weird to act upon something like that, right? If anyone wouldn't jump to judge her for it would be Harmony, but even then that was something that had seemed to be far from her mind.
Sugar had reached over to take a long swig from the wine she'd been sipping, setting the glass back on the coffee table and returning to her seat before taking a long breath in. She knew her exterior must've been odd, especially as she seemed to grow a giddy grin just as she scooted in a bit closer to Harmony before letting the breath she was holding out. "Don't freak out, please." Reaching a hand out to cup Harmony's face, lightly to try to not surprise her even more than she already had. A bite down on her own lip had her nodding, to show her own approval, but she wasted no more time in eliminating the distance between the two any longer and pressing her lips against hers. Her lips were soft, really soft in comparison to a man's, which surprisingly intrigued her even more. Before she got herself lost in the moment, Sugar pulled her mouth away to catch to see what look Harmony had on her face. Concern? Shock? Unsure-ity? All of those would have been okay to have, but Sugar hadn't been sorry to do it. In any case, Sugar found herself nodding in a slew of approval. "Was that weird? That was weird, wasn't it?"
Harmony immediately didn't know how to feel about the simple "oh" Sugar said in response to her confession about Austin. Was a break bad? What did that mean? The girl felt a little better once Sugar smiled, hoping that it had just been surprise since the couple had been doing so well before Austin had gone away. Or maybe it was just an "oh" to signify that she understood the reasoning behind the break and that there was nothing to worry about. She really didn't want it to be an "Oh. Yeah... your relationship's probably just straight up over." Or did she? These thoughts hadn't come to her before Sugar had spoken and now they were the only ones floating through her mind. Luckily there was a bit of silence then for Harmony to sort through her thoughts, deciding within a matter of seconds to push everything to the back of her mind. She didn't need to worry about that stuff. Things were either going to be over or they weren't. Harmony didn't need a man. She was fiercely independent. If they were over then he was just another guy that things hadn't worked out with. If they weren't, then that was great and that meant he could accommodate her need for independence, which was cool. Either way, she would be a-okay. She hadn't come to Chicago to tell Sugar about her relationship woes, though. She had come to hang out with the girl and have fun, so it was time to stop worrying.
Harmony looked over at Sugar after she had made the internal decision to perk up, fully prepared to ask the girl what they were doing that night when she noticed Sugar acting a little strangely. She was smiling and scooting over and... okay, Harmony was just a tad confused as to what was going on. "Don't freak out about what?" she wanted to ask, but she knew the answer as soon as Sugar's hand touched her face. She didn't know why Sugar was suddenly so intent on kissing her, but for some reason Harmony wasn't about to stop her. Wasn't she just two minutes ago thinking about Austin and that whole thing? Yeah, that couldn't have been farther from her mind as her eyes instinctively fluttered closed as she felt the girl's lips meet her own. And then it was over and Sugar was pulling away and Harmony was even more confused than she had been before. She hadn't kissed a girl completely sober before, and, well, it was actually kind of nice. And soft. Like... really soft. She didn't know what to say to her friend, though. Was it weird? A little. Probably because it had been out of nowhere. Was that weirdness going to keep Harmony from kissing the girl back? It probably should have. Yet for some unknown reason, Harmony was leaning in to connect her lips to Sugar's once again before she could even think about why she was doing it. She knew there would probably be consequences for it somewhere down the line, but honestly?
She wasn't even thinking about them right then.
