It's not everyday, that you get to read a great book, let alone a phenomenal one. My friend, @shoileyee has made me a list of bengali books, which have extraordinary titles like these. By her recommendation I picked up this book, 'Dahan' by Suchitra Bhattacharya from that list and utterly moved by the story. My friend surely has a great taste, that deserves much appraisal. . . I was thinking about choosing a theme for my bookstagram, when after swimming into the sea of ideas, I finally resolved to a simple theme of making background with my sarees, which I love also. Therefore, thought to combine my two loves, books and sarees together. I hope this becomes great over time... . . 'Dahan' is a story of a brave woman, Jhinuk, who rescued a homemaker, Romita from being raped at the Metro Station, Kolkata. Not only there, she stopped but fought till the end for that woman's right to get justice, however she could not get it as women are always a victim of the shackles of 'sanskars' of the society. In here too, we see that brave woman to challenge the normative ideas of feminine values in a society, as well as pictured how essential it is to give the long-due respect, women deserve. Otherwise, women like Romita would have to remain silent through ages, withstanding the bruises on her body, mind and dignity... . . . This saree is a pure silk, which I got on my 'Astamangala' (the time I went to my mom's home for the first time after my marriage). This is one of my favourite sarees... . . I used this saree because, 'Dahan' means the act of burning 🔥.
