"How long are you going to refuse to trust me?" from valk!
"not sure i can trust you" prompts / accepting.
her words fell short as she closed her eyes. she is not good at this. not as good as she used to be, not the same person she once was. how many people had she trusted only for them to turn their back on her? the ones she had trusted the most had been the ones who had hurt her the most. the memory of it stung, sitting in her chest like a heavy weight, giving her tunnel vision when she finally opened her eyes to look at valkyrie.
valkyrie. the ever-sweet king of new asgard, one of the few people in the galaxy who were what they said they were. they had been running in the same circles for a while now, and carol had seen the way she'd treated her people, always the one willing to defend them. she completely understood how that felt. it was her own reservations, her own guilt, that stopped her.
"i'm sorry," she found herself saying, blinking in the dim light of the ship, stepping closer. the ever-powerful captain marvel stood dormant now; this was just carol, who had lost so much and didn't know how to keep what she did have. "i'm sorry, you're right. i'm being unfair to you. i just..." she paused, hand moving as though she was trying to grip a solution out of thin air. she let it fall to her side with a soft thud, a sigh leaving her lips with a shake of her head. "thank you. for helping me."
