Suchai, I know the song's catchy, but you gotta do more in life than just SLEEP! WORK! SLEEP! WORK!
For those that didn't catch the reference, this is @deepblueink2d's artstyle! (and I'm referencing the theme song of Deep Space Discounts. go watch it, it's a very short indie animated series on youtube)
With this series of copying other artist's styles, I've had so many instances of fiddling with something for a while and finally getting it right to realize: wait, shit- that's not how they'd do that! (it's just how I would...)
But with this one- while I still did that a little bit- it wasn't as much an issue since I actually took a different method to doing the lineart!
Krita has some vector options, so I made a vector layer and used the line tool & just made & edited curves on the lines til I got the shapes I wanted.
In this video I noticed blue using a similar method - Although if you watch it or even just examine the lines closely in the animations, you can tell that they're hand-drawn and not using the straight line tool like I was. So I just tried to make sure none of the lines I had were perfectly straight (although I'm not sure how noticable that is) and touched up some lines by hand after converting the vector layer to bitmap.
I don't really know if Krita's vector layers even allow for hand-drawn lines, and tbh I wanted to give my drawing hand a bit of a break, which is part of why I even did this method.
Bonus frog:
Drawn May 20 2025. Colours are based on a Northern Green Frog :]
I wanted to do something based on deepblueink's toad as well since Suchai's favourite animals are, of course, frogs.

Back to copying artstyles, this one is @julialepetit 's style! Specifically I was referencing Drawtectives art. Not any one specific season. I wanted to include a little bonus doodle as well
I've been watching drawfee for a long time now, and reblogging a lot of fanart recently.

Drew them again
Janitor guy, the character with rat shirt belongs to @millionsandsomemore
yknow.... I actually made a post asking people about oc crossovers (It was "Either with characters of yours from different verses/stories, or between yours and someone elses'! Canon or not.") the other day, knowing I was gonna post this & the other drawing from today soon.......
But!! the person who owns the janitor commented on that post about having "something in the works for the ultimate crossoveršš" and posted this later that day
What do I even say to them winning a competition neither of us knew existed. Can't fucking believe this.
Lmao anyway, check out the other art of Suchai they've done too:
Here, here (second image), and here

You can see where I copied the hands (the one in front is from the biker and the one in back is from the player character/Red)
If I'm matching styles... I mean at least I know it's style accurate
I forgot to mention in another pixel art I did but there's sections here & there that were identical (I went back and edited it to add that info a while back but it wasn't there when I posted, I mean)
Part of it was because I was trying to emulate the artstyle(s)- and pixel art is kinda limited & part of it was because it was really good matches. And in the case of this I was not doing that outstretched hand on my own, are you kidding me?
the pose here is very similar to the one that was in my head for whenever I make him a new reference- which is why what I used here was a good fit. (the one in my head his arms are at a slightly different angle and he's standing up straight but we adjust for the occasion)
I did do Lake but I didn't like him. I started with Kristian and Kitty but I'm not finishing those either. I feel like Suchai best works in this palette anyway (the purple/orange I mean, but he works better for simple palettes in general since his design's fairly simple already)
I need to get back to doing that series of drawing Lake and Suchai in various styles. There were more I wanted to do. This doesn't count as part of that series. This is just me learning pixel art.

you! go make disabled ocs right meow
or well- do your research first. And then make disabled ocs!!
I would like to see more good rep in spec-fic pleeeeease
most of these guys are disabled, there's a couple I'm not solid on atm. I'm in here also.
I'm currently testing out a speech to text program to a lot of this so I stop straining my wrists. still editing and adding certain words by hand, because I still need to learn it and also some of what I have tested is hard to use...
+ adding more info just before posting :b
speaking of writing this as posting: I forgot I had this but why not post during disability pride? last day but w/ever.
some of these guys I've talked about their disabilities before, I mentioned Reece has Treacher-Collins (though in this drawing I still hadn't figured out how I'd draw it, he's got smaller ears now. idk why I couldn't commit when other characters without microtia would have smaller ears)
Suchai I mentioned his back issues and autism- both him and his brother also have dyspraxia and issues relating to their burn scars. Everyone in that story- except maybe Kitty- is actually supposed to be disabled. Mhairi has a cane, Kristian's I can't make up my mind on. Kitty's would probably be metaphorical though on account of the whole being dead thing (I think that's the name of a song actually. whatever)
Aurum has monocular vision (missing eye) obviously, Cori's got knee issues due to gigantism (I might not have mentioned that second part, or maybe I was still undecided.)
I think I kind of alluded to Vincent's, he also has autism and the thing with his arm is kind of one. Not a real-world one, but it's something that was meant to be seen as just a nod to how stories reset back to the status quo each episode and then gets explored more later through the lens of disability. I kinda do that with my writing a lot- have something be one thing, just seem like a joke or whatever- and then explore it through the lens of disability or whatever else, idk why.
I've probably never mentioned that Babe has ADHD, just because I didn't talk in my descriptions much when I did work on that story. A few other characters in that one were disabled too, Wilde and Enfys were autistic and Lei is audhd I think, SiobhƔn had albinism, Cyrille was also monocular vision? Pyry used crutches, and KlƔra's vocal chords didn't work. A lot of these characters were never public so dw if you've never heard of some of them
Austin now has a traumatic brain injury and is colourblind (protanomaly). he also needs glasses, but he broke them and isn't going to replace them
psuedopterosin is also colourblind (tritanopia) among other things.
(I'm correcting it but if you see me spell colour without a u, blame the speech to text lol. I'll see if I can fix it later, but I might forget...)
With Liliam I've been thinking of giving her achromatopsia, which is 'total colourblindness', and also has symptoms of day blindness, photophobia, nystagmus (shaky eyes),.
I've already drawn her with nystagmus before, but I was still unsure about it. since she's a nervous character it's hard to tell apart from just general anime shaky eyes, at least the way I drew it. and I hadn't researched into a disability for her yet and hadn't really worked on her/her story in a while.
so she has incomplete achromatopsia (incomplete often has less severe symptoms, and there is still some colour vision). I did research into types of sunglasses in history, which are used for photophobia and hemeralopia, I've been thinking maybe they exist in that universe, but not where she's from.
liliam at the start of the story lives in a forest- but while there's discussion of where everyone's from, cori notes her appearance and behaviours and points out she must be from an underground settlement like him (different race, but some similarities). so everybody understands that she doesn't have that many options for keeping light out of her eyes, she can get more later on- but she has to travel through some way brighter places first...
If you saw the new design on artfight with the hat & veil this is why she has them.
I'm going to have to retool some things though, since she's now visually impaired. I don't fully know how bad her vision is, this is a rare condition and her vision will depend on lighting. from what I'm reading it might be ~20/80 in direct light but I'm not sure and need to do more research and that might be hard.
But whatever I never wrote a lot of this shit down anyway
the person with Aurum is one of Vincent's friends. design is subject to change, because I just designed them during this and had no plans beforehand. anyway, they have the same disability as Aurum (recently disabled) and found his content through searching for community. so they (in)directly introduced Vincent to Aurum/his content.
they're a side character, but they're very important to the overall plot haha
I being disabled, am cognizant of the whole 'disabled villain' trope and general tokenism with having only one character with a disability so I do actually try to make sure that I've got more characters with it- I'm just bad at either designing side characters or just. writing things in general. so you don't get to see many of them
You can probably guess though that considering I'm disabled and named 'dark overlord' that I don't mind disabled villains too much, as long as it doesn't feel like the evilness and the disability are related to eachother. but there's only positives to adding even more disabled characters :b
Uh- the specific reason for adding more, if you don't know, is just to clearly show that there's more than one way to be 'specific-disability' (or other marginalized identity). Avoids tokenism or implying that all people with 'marginalized-identity' are this way. Also people tend to make communities anyway, so it's hardly "unrealistic". Show their support system! Who they learned their coping strategies from!
In this case there are also other non-disabled villains in that story which also helps (Though you guys don't know many/don't know who's all in that story), but it's not exactly enough on it's own I felt. Aurum's fairly obviously disabled and he's a pretty important character. and it's always the villains who get obvious disabilities or facial differences....
There's a couple others I've not talked about, but this is where I'll leave this.
