#subtle violence

“This must be what hell looks like.” Melody thought to herself. She was with her younger sister Alice, and they were hiding. She had no clue where her parents were. Dad had brought them here and told them to stay put, so that’s what they were doing. But then, those strange undead creatures started appearing, and fallen soldiers were joining their ranks. Melody had never been so terrified before, her lilac eyes wide and afraid. Suddenly, the sounds of groans grew near. The monsters were here. She grabbed Alice’s hand with a whisper of “W-we need to r-run.” Alice’s green eyes gleamed with unshed tears as she nodded. Melody ran and ran for what felt like forever, and then the worse happened: she tripped. The beast raised it’s axe over her, ready fo bring it down to go in for the kill, and Melody braced herself, waiting for pain and death. But instead, she heard a shout of pain. She looked up, and saw that her father had shielded her from the blow. With a pained “Run!” her father collapsed, dead. Their father was dead and it was all her fault. He died because she was weak. Weak and stupid. A weak, stupid, and pathetic little girl.
