ok that poetic elfilin death post is an absolute
banger it inspired me i hope you donât mind đđ
Elfilin doesnât know what heâs doing.
All he knows is what he has to do.
ElfilisâGod, he doesnât even have time to process thatâis dead, but their power remains, a conncection between worlds.
He soars towards the star-shaped rift, the sound of high winds and powerful magic ringing in his ears, drowning out all other sound.
The landscape is getting torn apart, flora and fauna alike getting sucked in.
And then suddenly heâs in the eye of the vortex, in the middle of the portal, and he has a migraine, his ears hurt horribly but theyâre strong, heâs strong, and heâs charging up a spell to close the portal and
It feels like heâs being crushed.
All he can hear and see is white, noise, and all he can feel is pain, all he does feel is pain, awful awful pain.
And then he realises that closing this portal would kill him. That closing this portal is going to kill him.
It will take all the power he has, all the power he has left, and more, to close the portal.
Even if he does survive, he wonât see Kirby again. Will he see Bandanna Dee again? King Dedede and Meta Knight, he knows they will see, but they cared for Kirby, tooâŚwould he even be able to look them in the eyes when they will never see Kirby again?
Elfilin can barely think to chide himself for the thoughtsânot only is he being crushed, but heâs splitting apart, and that one moment heâs closing that portal, that connection, feels like an eternity.
Heâs saving Kirbyâs life, and the lives of many others.
Yet forever goodbyes are the hardest, Elfilin knows from experience.
Elfilinâs throat aches, eyes stinging with tears, mind stinging with the thought, When will he see Kirby again?
Elfilin doesnât realise anything is wrong.
Then he realises nothing is wrong.
He canât feel anything.
What was he doing before now?
A small butterfly, blood orange and golden yellow, gently fluttering in from the nothingness surrounding Elfilin, the nothingness that is Elfilin.
It gives him shape, and lands on his nose.
âHey there, young one,â
As soon as he hears its voice, he knows,
âDo you know why I am here?â
Its voice is disembodied, with a magical quality that makes Elfilinâs ears ring.
Elfilin remembers everything, then.
He remembers Bandanna Dee.
He remembers Meta Knight, and King Dedede, and everyone else in Waddle Dee Town.
He remembers closing Elfilisâ portal, stopping Pop Star from colliding with the Forgotten Land.
He remembers the horrible pain, the feeling of his body giving under the weight of his power.
He remembers knowing nothing but white.
He remembers knowing nothing but black.
He remembers, now. The present. And he remembers stories Kirby had told him of Pop Star folklore and mythology, stories of butterflies from Hades.
âYes, I know,â why else would it be here?
The butterflyâs wings and antennae twitch.
âAre you ready to come with me?â
âItâs alright,â the butterfly soothed.
Elfilin blinks at the butterfly. With a twitch of its wings, it âblinksâ back.
The thought of dying, the thought of leaving everyone and everything behind, when he was just getting started livingâŚ
Elfilin doesnât want to be all alone again.
Elfilin has never felt anything like he does for Kirby.
Elfilin remembers first meeting Kirby. He saved him, and he saved others.
Elfilin remembers eating at the cafĂŠ with Kirby, watching him scarf down dozens of snacks.
Elfilin remembers fishing with Kirby. He felt so proud when Kirby finally caught that giant fish, after minutes of toil.
Itâs been, what, only five minutes?
Yet his heart aches for him.
Elfilin is not ready to die.
âCan you even take me, with half a soul?â
âNot until I have the other half, but you are dead,â
âI wantâI needâIâm going to see Kirby again. I have to head back to Waddle Dee Town.â
The butterfly is at a loss for words, and Elfilin is at a loss for thoughts.
It seems like an eternity when the butterfly nods the best a butterfly can nod, and flutters its wings like a wave.
At first, Elfilin doesnât realise he is breathing, because he doesnât realise he is alive.
But he feels like he is being pressed against warm fur, and he realises he can feel, and he stirs, and groans.
Elfilin aches all over, freezing and exhausted.
He barely registers a meow, because at that point heâs only half-alive and half-awake.
