My favourite child. When will he be set free from the potato wars to claim his main character status?
Oh my god.
OH MY GOD.
BEAUTIFUL. MAJESTIC. INCREDIBLE. REVOLUTIONARY.
WELL FUCK. Did Steven just psychically turn off the TV? I hope this ends with a full out Carrie episode, I really do.
I am super tired and also on some heavy hospital-grade drugs right now, so just vibe with me for a minute guys: Frankenstein. That’s what washed out, glossy-eyed Rosemethyst reminds me of. The repellant reanimation of the dead.Â
Which I guess makes Greg like OG Frankie, turning away from all the things that remind him of Rose, including Steven, letting his pain override every good intention we know he has. Like Frankie, Greg refuses to interact with his family and retreats into himself, ultimately denying the reality of loss and separation.Â
Rose’s presence in the show is quite disembodied - she’s always in a state of peaceful repose. Even when she’s talking about her death she’s pretty chill and calm. Even now we don’t get to see Rosemethyst’s expression twisted by pain or anger, just this empty slightly wrong expression. We’ve been trained to recognise Rose from a three quarter angle, and this ain’t she. The actual Rose continues to floats above all the psychic pain everyone else around here has to carry around. There’s no grave for her, or bubble for her shards that can be memorialised and touched. There’s just Steven as a reminder of the void Rose left.Â
And like the Creature, Amethyst just wants to be loved, and is hated because of the circumstance of her creation. The Creature was abandoned by Frankie and left alone to deal with desolation and grief, like Amethyst seems to perceive herself: abandoned by Rose, who chose Greg and Steven’s life over her deathful Kindergarten birth. And in those circumstances, the only avenue to make her presence known to others is through destructive action.Â
Greg pulls away from life. Amethyst, in resurrecting Rose, pulls away from death. Love that is rejected becomes hatred, and humiliation turns affection into vengeance. Every action seems to contain the promise of annihilation for Amethyst, which is very exciting for me personally.Â
I don’t really know what I’m trying to say here, but I feel it very strongly, you get me?

Best episode? BEST EPISODE GUYS. The tension was so well done. Every visual metaphor was exactly as on point as it needed to be. The dynamics and repression and struggle everyone is going through to keep it together and be a family was done with a deft hand, as was all their major failures and small successes. The art was gorgeous. And Garnet wore a leather jacket.Â
It’s gonna take some work for any episode to top this one. I don’t know if it’s even possible.
THIS IS THE MOST INCREDIBLE EPISODE. INTER IT IN THE LOUVRE.Â
It’s like the bare minimum of what qualifies as an apology, but also awwwww. She babey.
